Hypothesis Z
Hypothesis Z ( ro, Ipoteza Z), sometimes known as Plan Z ( ro, Planul Z, link=no), was the name of Romania's first war plan for World War I. It was based on an offensive against Austria-Hungary in Transylvania and a simultaneous defense of the country against Bulgarian attacks in the south. Once Russian forces had arrived in Dobruja, the Romanian Army would launch another offensive against Bulgaria. Hypothesis Z was definitively developed and completed by July 1916. Its application in the war in which Romania entered in August 1916 was unsuccessful, but its main objective, to achieve the unification of the Romanian nation, was realised anyway after the war. Plan Z
Plan Z was the name given to the planned re-equipment and expansion of the ''Kriegsmarine'' (German navy) ordered by Adolf Hitler in early 1939. The fleet was meant to challenge the naval power of the United Kingdom, and was to be completed by 1948. Development of the plan began in 1938, but it reflected the evolution of the strategic thinking of the ''Oberkommando der Marine'' (Naval High Command) over the two decades following World War I. The plan called for a fleet centered on ten battleships and four aircraft carriers which were intended to battle the Royal Navy. This force would be supplemented with numerous long-range cruisers that would attack British shipping. A relatively small force of U-boats was also stipulated. When World War II broke out in September 1939, almost no work had been done on the new ships ordered under Plan Z. The attack on Pearl HarborAlso known as the Battle of Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service upon the United States against the naval base at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii, just before 8:00a.m. (local time) on Sunday, December 7, 1941. The United States was a neutral country at the time; the attack led to its formal entry into World War II the next day. The Japanese military leadership referred to the attack as the Hawaii Operation and Operation AI, and as Operation Z during its planning. Japan intended the attack as a preventive action. Operation Z (1944)
Operation Z was a defensive plan put into place by the Japanese during World War II to defend the Marianas Islands, and in particular, Saipan. Background Early in 1944, the United States military set their eyes on the Marshall Islands after landing on Kwajalein Atoll. To help with the attack, on February 17, 1944, they bombarded Truk, Caroline Islands, due to its proximity to the Marshall Islands. During this bombardment, the Japanese lost 300 aircraft and some 200,000 tons of merchant shipping. Defense of Marianas With the impending invasion of the Marianas Islands, Admiral Mineichi Koga, on March 8, sponsored Operation Z, as a defense against the American attack. Plan Z (TV Series)
Plan Z was a comedic Chilean TV show broadcast between 1997 and 1998 in the now-defunct Chilean TV channel ''Canal 2 Rock & Pop'', made up of short sketches, usually containing absurdist surreal ist and sometimes politically incorrect humor, created by Angel Carcavilla, Carolina Delpiano, Rafael Gumucio, Pedro Peirano and Alvaro Díaz. It would often show parodies of real life situations, ridiculized stereotypes, and elements that made fun of a post-dictatorship Chile through irony. Its name is based on "Plan Z", which was a supposed plan by the Salvador Allende administration to commit a self-coup in an attempt to establish a Marxist state with the help of the MIR and of the Cuban government. The existence of this plan was supposedly confirmed by the military, but the CIA later confirmed that it was just a product of war propaganda.
