ZSSK Class 425.95
The ZSSK Class 425.95, is a class of metre gauge electric articulated trains currently operating on the Tatra Electric Railway (TEŽ), in the Prešov Region of northeastern Slovakia. They are part of the Stadler GTW family of rail vehicles, developed by Stadler Rail. Due to their boxy shape, and angled Cab (multiple unit), cab ends, the members of the class have been nicknamed "Tetrapaks". Background The TEŽ is a long line connecting Poprad-Tatry railway station, on the standard gauge Košice–Bohumín Railway, with a number of ski, tourist, and health resorts in the nearby High Tatras. Opened in 1908, the line was completely refurbished in the late 1960s, and is now operated by the Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko ( en, Railway Corporation of Slovakia) (ZSSK). Štrbské Pleso railway station ( sk, Železničná stanica Štrbské Pleso) is a junction station in the High Tatras. It serves the settlement of Štrbské Pleso, which is part of the village of Štrba, in the Prešov Region, northeastern Slovakia. Opened in 1970, the station is the northwestern terminus of the main line operated by the metre gauge Tatra Electric Railway (TEŽ), and the mountain terminus of the Štrbské Pleso – Štrba rack railway, another metre gauge line. The station is also the highest point of both lines, and of the TEŽ as a whole, at above sea level. The station is currently owned by Železnice Slovenskej republiky (ŽSR); train services are operated by Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko (ZSSK).
