''ZPC'' (''Zero Population Count'') is a first-person shooter video game which uses the ''Marathon 2'' engine. It was developed by Zombie LLC, published by GT Interactive and released on October 31, 1996 in video gaming, 1996. It was noted for its stylized look adapted from artwork by Aidan Hughes (also credited with the game's concept). Gameplay The story focuses on Arman, an exiled "Warrior Messiah" who has come of age and sets out to reclaim his throne. Development The game had a development budget of less than $1 million. Aidan Hughes
Aidan Hughes is a commercial artist. He was born in 1956 in Merseyside, England, and was trained as an artist by his father, himself a landscape painter. In the 1980s, Hughes published a pulp-style magazine called ''BRUTE!''. ''Brute!'' has become an occasional pseudonym for Hughes as well. Hughes usually works in a very high contrast style, often black and white, but more often black and white accented with one other color. He claims influence from American comic book artist Jack Kirby, the painter John Martin, and (most apparently) from Russian propaganda posters. Aidan Hughes created most of the album covers for the industrial band KMFDM. Two of KMFDM's music videos ("A Drug Against War," "Son of a Gun") were animated versions of Hughes's artwork. Marathon Trilogy
The ''Marathon Trilogy'' is a science fiction first-person shooter video game series from Bungie, primarily released for the Mac OS. The name of the series is derived from the giant interstellar colony ship that provides the main setting for the first game; the ship is constructed out of the Martian moon Deimos. The three games in the series — ''Marathon'' (1994), '' Marathon 2: Durandal'' (1995), and '' Marathon Infinity'' (1996) — are widely regarded as spiritual predecessors of Bungie's ''Halo'' series. Zombie LLC
Zombie Studios was an American independent video game developer. It was formed in 1994 as Zombie, LLC by Joanna Alexander and Mark Long, formerly of the Sarnoff Research Center. Alexander and Long founded Zombie after they completed the design of a virtual reality headset for Hasbro at Sarnoff in 1993. Zombie has designed and produced over 30 games for major platforms. They created a value label in 2005, Direct Action Games, to design and produce value titles for both PC and consoles. Zombie Studios shut down in January 2015 with its owners' retirement. Former staffers of the company subsequently founded a new studio, Builder Box Games (now Hardsuit Labs), who acquired some of Zombie Studio's former IPs. ''Marathon 2: Durandal'' is a first-person shooter video game, part of the science fiction ''Marathon Trilogy'' by Bungie. It was released on November 24, 1995. The game is mostly set on the fictional planet of Lh'owon, homeworld of the S'pht, and once again the player takes the role of a shipboard security officer from the ''Marathon''. This is the only game in the series to be officially released for Windows and Xbox 360 XBLA in addition to the Mac. The unofficial Aleph One community enhancement, built on engine source opened by Bungie in 1999, allows the game to be played on many other platforms. The entire game including assets were released for free to the public by Bungie in 2005, now commonly bundled for distribution with Aleph One.
