Zimdancehall Awards 2014
Zimdancehall is a subgenre of reggae/dancehall music from Zimbabwe. The traditional way of message delivery is through chanting. Zimdancehall became more popular after the fall of the Urban Grooves genre. Popular pioneers of Zimdancehall include Winky D, Sniper Storm, Daddie Distress, Ras Tavonga (Jah Bless), Freeman HKD, Lewaz Skattah to mention a few. History Zimdancehall started in the late 1980s with the rising up of local sound systems. The popularity of these recordings led to more studio recordings. By the end of the 90s, a number of local youths were recording singles and albums independently and reggae bands like Cruxial Mix (Trevor Hall) and Black Roots holding regular weekly shows to showcase artists. Freeman HKD
Freeman HKD Boss (born June 22, 1988), born Emegy Slyvester Chizanga, is a Zimdancehall artist who rose to prominence after release of ''Joina City'' single. Early life Freeman HKD was born in Bindura, Mashonaland Central province of Zimbabwe in a family of 6. He grew up in Bindura town where he attended his early education. Career background Freeman started his music career in 2009 when he recorded his first track ''Unondipa Rudo'' which was produced by WeMaNuff Nhubu. Before becoming a recording artist, he was a professional footballer playing for Mwana Africa F.C. in first division league at the time, he also spent a considerable time of his life in the late 2000s as a butcher boy in the Waterfalls area. Reggae
Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its diaspora. Music Of Zimbabwe
Zimbabwean music is heavily reliant on the use of instruments such as the mbira, Ngoma drums and hosho. Their music symbolizes much more than a simple rhythm, as the folk and pop style styled music was used as a symbol of hope for Zimbabweans looking to gain independence from Rhodesia. Music has played a significant role in the history of Zimbabwe, from a vital role in the traditional Bira ceremony used to call on ancestral spirits, to protest songs during the struggle for independence. The community in Zimbabwe used music to voice their resistance to their oppression, as one of the only weapons they had available to fight back with. In the eighties, the Music of Zimbabwe was at the center of the African Music scene thanks to genres such as Sungura and Jit. Levels Chillspot
Levels Chillspot is a Zimbabwean music producer, artist and Zimdancehall chanter. He is co-founder of Chillspot Recordz. Early life Born Rodger Tafadzwa Kadzimwe, Levels was born in Murehwa in September 1989. He grew up in Chitungwiza where he had his early education then later moved to Mbare suburb in Harare. Background Levels Chillspot grew into prominence when he co-founded one of the most successful Zimdancehall record labels in Zimbabwe, Chillspot Recordz in 2013 which popularised Zimdancehall genre. Through the Chillspot Recordz, Levels's name has become popular in Zimbabwe along with his partner Dj Fantan through continuous credit chanting of their names in hit songs that dominated radio airplay, public events and clubs. Obey Makamure (born 29 November 1993), popularly known under the stage name Tocky Vibes, is a Zimbabwean award-winning Zimdancehall artist, songwriter and lyricist. He has released multiple singles. Soul Muzavazi Musaka, known professionally as Soul Jah Love (22 November 1989 – 16 February 2021), was an award-winning Zimbabwean musician credited as a pioneer of mainstream Zimdancehall. He was declared a hero for his contributions to music. Among several hit singles, Soul Jah Love had tracks ''"Ndini Uya Uya",'' "''Gum-kum''" ''(2012),'' ''"Pamamonya Ipapo''.''"'' Robert Muchamore (born 26 December 1971) is an English author, most notable for writing the ''CHERUB'' and ''Henderson's Boys'' novels. Early life Robert Muchamore was born in Tufnell Park, London, and is the youngest of four children. Judgement Yard
Judgement Yard is a Harare-based Dancehall and reggae group made up of music DJs. History Judgement Yard was founded by Youngson Kudita also known as I-Randu in 2009 and consists of music DJs; I-Randu, DJ Flevah, Etherton Bennie, DJ 2Bad and Mc Tawastok aka Short Boss. In 2013, they performed in Cape Town, South Africa. This was their very first foreign tour. In early 2015, they made their debut appearance at the Zimbabwe Cup Clash, an annual musical show held in the United Kingdom. In 2018, they performed at Marafco Lounge in Pretoria, South Africa. A ghetto, often called ''the'' ghetto, is a part of a city in which members of a minority group live, especially as a result of political, social, legal, environmental or economic pressure.
