The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (IOC code: ZIM) is the National Olympic Committee representing Zimbabwe. It was created in 1934 and recognised by the IOC in 1980. Mike Fokoroni (also written ''Mike Fokorani;'' born 10 January 1977) is a Zimbabwean long-distance runner. His personal best time for the marathon is 2:13:17 hours, achieved in August 2008, placing 11th at the Beijing Olympics. Heather Brand
Heather Brand (born 17 November 1982) is a Zimbabwean swimmer, who specialised in freestyle and butterfly events. Brand had claimed a total of five medals (three silver and two bronze) at the 2007 All-Africa Games in Algiers, Algeria, and eventually represented her nation Zimbabwe in the 100 m butterfly at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Apart from her medal treasury, Brand also established five long and short-course national records in all butterfly events at a major international competition, spanning three editions of the World Championships. Medley is a combination of four different swimming styles—backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and freestyle—into one race. This race is either swum by one swimmer as individual medley (IM) or by four swimmers as a medley relay. Individual medley Individual medley consists of a single swimmer swimming equal distances of four different strokes within one race. Stroke order Individual medley consists of four strokes. Women's single sculls competition at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing was held between August 9 and 16, at the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park. This rowing event is a single scull event, meaning that each boat is propelled by a single rower. The "scull" portion means that the rower uses two oars, one on each side of the boat; this contrasts with sweep rowing in which each rower has one oar and rows on only one side (not feasible for singles events!). The competition consists of multiple rounds. Finals were held to determine the placing of each boat; these finals were given letters with those nearer to the beginning of the alphabet meaning a better ranking. Semifinals were named based on which finals they fed, with each semifinal having two possible finals. During the first round six heats were held. Elana Susan Hill (born 28 May 1988 in Harare, Zimbabwe) is a Zimbabwean rower. She represented Zimbabwe at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. She went to school at Bishopslea Preparatory School and Arundel School in Harare. She excelled in rowing at Arundel School. She is currently studying at the University of Pretoria. Cycling At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's Cross-country
The men's cross-country mountain biking at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place at the Laoshan Mountain Bike Course on August 23, 2008. France's Julien Absalon pulled away from a pack of mountain bikers at the start to defend his Olympic title in the event with a gold-medal time in 1:55:59. Athletics At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's Marathon
The women's marathon at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place on August 17 around an urban circuit specifically designed for the competition at Beijing, and finished in the Beijing National Stadium; it was, as of today, the last time in Summer Olympics history in which women's marathon route start and/or finish was located in the Olympic Stadium. The qualifying standards were 2:37.00 (A standard) and 2:42.00 (B standard). There were a total number of 82 competitors from 42 nations. The winner was Constantina Diṭă-Tomescu of Romania who at one point took a lead of over a minute and maintained it ahead of the chasing pack all the way into the stadium. She completed the marathon in a time of 2:26:44. In second place was Catherine Ndereba of Kenya who completed the race in 2:27:06, closely followed by bronze medalist Zhou Chunxiu of China who finished in a time of 2:27:07. Tabitha Tsatsa
Tabitha Tsatsa (born September 18, 1972) is a Zimbabwean marathon elite veteran runner. She set both a national record and a personal best time of 2:29:20, by finishing fourth at the 2008 Dong-A Seoul International Marathon, held in Seoul, South Korea. Career Tabitha was the first female runner to represent Zimbabwe at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where she competed as a lone female athlete in the women's marathon. She successfully finished the race in forty-ninth place by two seconds ahead of Turkey's Bahar Doğan, with a time of 2:37:10. In 2007, Tabitha founded her own athletics club called Power House Athletics in Zimbabwe, where she helps and assists emerging athletes and most of the elite athletes in the Southern Region.
