The Promised Land ( he, הארץ המובטחת, translit.: ''ha'aretz hamuvtakhat''; ar, أرض الميعاد, translit.: ''ard al-mi'ad; also known as "The Land of Milk and Honey"'') is the land which, according to the Tanakh (the Hebrew Bible or the Old Testament), God promised and subsequently gave to Abraham and several more times to his descendants. In modern contexts, the phrase "Promised Land" expresses an image and an idea which is related to the restored homeland for the Jewish people and the concepts of salvation and liberation. Divine promise The concept of the Promised Land is based on verses in the Tanakh (the Hebrew Bible or the Old Testament), in which God speaks to Abraham. The promises given to Abraham happened prior to the birth of Isaac and were given to all his offspring signified through the rite of circumcision. ''The Promised Land'' ( pl, Ziemia obiecana, ) is an 1899 novel by the Polish author and Nobel laureate, Władysław Reymont; first published in Warsaw. It is considered one of his most important works after '' The Peasants''. The novel ''The Promised Land'' was originally published as installments in the industrial city of Łódź by the daily ''Kurier Codzienny'' from 1897 to 1898. Set in Łódź, ''The Promised Land'' tells the story of three close friends and ruthless young industrialists: a Pole, a German and a Jew, struggling to build their own factory in the heartless world of the late 19th century labour exploitation. Reymont's novel vividly paints a portrait of the rapid industrialization of Łódź and its cruel effects on workers and mill owners. ''The Promised Land'' ( pl, Ziemia obiecana) is a 1975 Polish drama film directed by Andrzej Wajda, based on a novel by Władysław Reymont. Set in the industrial city of Łódź, ''The Promised Land'' tells the story of a Pole, a German, and a Jew struggling to build a factory in the raw world of 19th-century capitalism. Wajda presents a shocking image of the city, with its dirty and dangerous factories and ostentatiously opulent residences devoid of taste and culture. The film follows in the footsteps of Charles Dickens, Émile Zola and Maxim Gorky, as well as German expressionists such as Knopf, Meidner and Grosz, who gave testimony of social protest. Star Guard Muffin also known as SGM is a Polish band formed in Brzeg in 2008, and suspended in February 2012. It consisted of vocalist Kamil Bednarek, guitarist Szymon Chudy, keyboardist Radek Szyszkowski, bassist Kuba Wojciechowski and drummer Maciek Pilarz. The band is widely associated with reggae music, including roots reggae, ragga and dancehall. History Early years The band was formed in Brzeg in May 2008. Their first performance was as opening performers before EastWest Rockers' concert in club BigStar in Brzeg. In September they took the first place on Rock Reggae Festiwal in Brzeszcze. In August 2009 Star Guard Muffin won Grand Prix at Festiwal Artystyczny Młodzieży Akademickiej in Świnoujście. In the same month they performed on Second Days of Youngsters in Dobre Miasto. ''A Promised Land'' is a memoir by Barack Obama, the 44th president of the United States from 2009 to 2017. Published on November 17, 2020, it is the first of a planned two-volume series.
