ZemplÃn (region)
ZemplÃn is the name of an informal List of traditional regions of Slovakia, traditional region located in eastern Slovakia. It includes the Slovak part of the former Zemplén County, Zemplén county, often including the Slovak part of the Ung county (Slovak: ''Užská župa''/''Užský komitát''). Geography ZemplÃn region stretches from the Carpathian Mountains in the north to the lowest point in Slovakia at AMSL. The region is situated in the easternmost part of Slovakia (except for the region between Vihorlatské vrchy and the Latorica river, if the former territory of Ung county is not included). Rivers in the region include: Bodrog, Laborec, Latorica, Uzh, Ondava and a small part of the Tisza river. ZemplÃn is no longer an administrative region, but is divided between two of the 21 official tourism regions, Lower ZemplÃn and Upper ZemplÃn. ZemplÃn () is a village and municipality in TrebiÅ¡ov District of the KoÅ¡ice Region. History In historical records the village was first mentioned in 1214. ZemplÃn is also the location of ZemplÃn Castle, former administrative center of the former Zemplén County during the time the Kingdom of Hungary ruled the area. Geography The village lies at an altitude of 106 metres and covers an area of 14,67 km².
