Zdenek Konvalina (born 1979) is a multidisciplinary artist who gained international acclaim as a performing artist and in later career developed abstract expressionist painting practice. Personal life Konvalina was born in 1979 in Brno, Czech Republic. He married ballerina Ksenia Ovsyanick in 2014. Career After graduating from Brno Conservatory (Bachelor's degree: Fine Arts) in 1997 Zdenek pursued a career of a ballet dancer becoming an International Guest Principal Artist working with the most prominent choreographers, directors and artists around the world. In 2001, he joined the Houston Ballet where he danced until 2006. After dancing for five years as a principal dancer with the National Ballet of Canada, in 2011, he joined the English National Ballet in London as lead principal. Ksenia Ovsyanick ( Russian: Ксения Овсяник; born September 5, 1989) is a Belarusian-British ballet dancer who, as of December 2022, is a principal dancer with the Berlin State Ballet and an international guest performing artist. Personal life Born in Soviet Russia to a psychologist mother and an economist father. She has two older sisters, one an Israeli economist and a second, Alena Yiv Israeli actress and director. Ovsyanick married artist Zdenek Konvalina in 2014. Career Ovsyanick started her ballet training at the Belarusian State Ballet College; following her win at the Prix de Lausanne competition in Switzerland, she continued her studies at the English National Ballet School in London and eventually joined English National Ballet in 2008. Brno Conservatory
The Brno Conservatory, also Brno Conservatoire ( cs, Konzervatoř Brno), was established in Brno on 25 September 1919 by Moravian composer Leoš Janáček. History Leoš Janáček attempted to establish and improve high musical education in Brno from his early age. In 1881, he founded the ''Organ School'', however, it was just the beginning of his efforts in this field. The conservatory was established by joining the Organ School, music school of ''Beseda brněnská'', and music school of ''Vesna'' (women's educational association based in Brno). Initially, it was situated in a "greek villa", on the corner of the streets of Smetanova and Kounicova. It was the former seat of the Organ School (from 1907). Janáček was the first director of the conservatory, but the school gained its current seat only during the directorship of his successor, Jan Kunc. Houston Ballet, operated by Houston Ballet Foundation, is a professional ballet company based in Houston, Texas. The company, consisting of 59 dancers, produces over 85 performances per year. History Tatiana Semenova (1955–1967) Houston developed its style for professional ballet beginning in the 1930s, with Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. For eleven years, Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo spent a week during the Christmas season in Houston performing for Houston audiences. From this exposure grew a desire among patrons for a resident dance company. In the spring of 1955, Tatiana Semenova, a former dancer with Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, was invited to start a ballet school in Houston.
