Zanesville is a city in and the county seat of Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. It is located east of Columbus and had a population of 24,765 as of the 2020 census, down from 25,487 as of the 2010 census. Historically the state capital of Ohio, Zanesville anchors the Zanesville micropolitan statistical area (population 86,183), and is part of the greater Columbus-Marion-Zanesville combined statistical area. History Zanesville was named after Ebenezer Zane (1747–1811), who had blazed Zane's Trace, a pioneer trail from Wheeling, Virginia (now in West Virginia) to Maysville, Kentucky through present-day Ohio. In 1797, he remitted land as payment to his son-in-law, John McIntire (1759–1815), at the point where Zane's Trace met the Muskingum River. Zanesville High School
Zanesville High School is a public high school in Zanesville, Ohio. Zanesville High School is the only public high school in the Zanesville City School District. History The first Zanesville High School was built in downtown North 6th Street 1849 and opened its doors in 1855. In 1908, a new Zanesville High School was built across the street and named Lash High School in honor of Superintendent William D. Lash. The fourth version, was opened on September 9, 1954, on Blue Ave. This land was willed by John McIntire for public park/education. At the time of its opening, the Times Recorder' said of the $4 million school, "you have to see it to believe it.". Old Lash High became Hancock Jr High until it was demolished in the early 1980s. The Zanesville Indians (a.k.a. Zanesville Dodgers, Zanesville Cubs and Zanesville Greys) were a Minor League Baseball Team located in Zanesville, Ohio. Zanesville Infants
The Zanesville Infants (1908–1909) was a short-lived baseball franchise located in Zanesville, Ohio, and affiliated with the regional Central League. The organization's name was intended to highlight that they were a new minor league club. The Infants proved tough competitors and were runners-up in the league championship in 1909. A ball club featuring many players who later formed the core of the Infants was established in Zanesville in 1907, when local investors purchased the Youngstown Ohio Works. The investors also offered a contract to the Youngstown, Ohio, club's ex-manager, Marty Hogan, a former major league outfielder. Although the Zanesville team failed in its bid to join the Ohio–Pennsylvania League, it secured a spot in the less prestigious Pennsylvania–Ohio–Maryland League. Zanesville Municipal Airport is a city-owned airport six miles east of downtown Zanesville, Ohio, Zanesville, in Muskingum County, Ohio. The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015 FAA airport categories, called it a ''general aviation'' facility. The first airline flights were TWA DC-3s in 1947.
