Edgar Zabriskie Residence
The Edgar Zabriskie Residence is located at 3524 Hawthorne Avenue in the Bemis Park neighborhood of Omaha, Nebraska, United States. It was built in 1889 as one of the first homes in Bemis Park. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and was designated an Omaha Landmark in 1980. About The Zabriskie Residence is regarded as one of the finest Queen Anne style structures in Omaha. Edgar Zabriskie was a ship officer, American Civil War veteran, Union Pacific general agent and accountant. He was one of the first purchasers of a lot in Bemis Park, a new residential suburb in the 1880s. The house was designed by a firm operated by Benjamin Fowler and Charles Beindorff, who also designed a number of important civic buildings throughout the city. After it was built the Zabriskie Residence and carriage house sat alone on a hill overlooking the Bemis Park development for nearly a decade. Zabriskie-Steuben House
The Steuben House is a noted example of Bergen Dutch sandstone architecture, located at New Bridge Landing on the Hackensack River in River Edge, in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. It was confiscated from Loyalist Jan Zabriskie, and served as a military headquarters through much of the Revolutionary War. General George Washington made it his headquarters, September 4 to 17, 1780. Following the war, it was given to Major General Baron von Steuben, who occupied it from 1783 to 1788. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 18, 1970, for its significance in architecture and military history. With The Steuben Estate Complex, a national historic district, was listed on December 9, 1980, for its significance in architecture, exploration/settlement, and invention. Seven Chimneys, also known as the Nicholas Zabriskie House, was built between 1745 and 1750 by Nicholas Zabriskie, an early Dutch settler in the Hudson Valley. It is the oldest house in Washington Township, Bergen County, New Jersey. Notable visitors include Theodore Roosevelt. . The house was used as a stop on the Underground Railroad. Sir John Alexander Macdonald (January 10 or 11, 1815 – June 6, 1891) was the first prime minister of Canada, serving from 1867 to 1873 and from 1878 to 1891. The Van Voorhees–Quackenbush House, also known as the Zabriskie House, is a historic stone house located at 421 Franklin Avenue in the township of Wyckoff in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The oldest section was built around 1740 by William Van Voorhees and enlarged in 1824 by Albert Van Voorhees. The original section of the house is now the dining room and part of the kitchen. The home was purchased in 1867 by Uriah Quackenbush. His granddaughter Grace Quackenbush Zabriskie bequeathed the home to the township in 1973. Zabriskie Tenant House
The Zabriskie Tenant House was a historic house of the American colonial architecture style called Dutch Colonial on Dunkerhook Road in Paramus, in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States, adjacent to the Saddle River County Park. The Zabriskie family, who farmed much of the area to the east of the Saddle River (Passaic River), built the home to house their domestic workers. It was one of the few structures left in New Jersey directly related to free African American communities in the state, and was a remnant of an African American Dunkerhook community that (until the early 20th century) included several homes and an A.M.E. Church. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 24, 1984. Developers Sal and Marcello Petruzella made a proposal to demolish the house and subdivide the land for the development of larger stylized houses with no reference to the historical community.
