Yuri Yokomizo
is a Japanese illustrator and graphic designer who is best known for creating the San-X series 'Sumikko Gurashi'. The series has inspired a popular line of merchandise and has been adapted into video games and two critically acclaimed feature films in Japan. She currently works as a freelance illustrator. Early life As a child, Yuri Yokomizo was a timid student and would often avoid standing out in school. She developed a love for art which had been largely inspired by her affinity for video games, anime, and character goods citing inspiration from popular franchises of her childhood such as Pokémon, Tamagotchi, Afro Ken, and others. is a Japanese stationery company known for creating and marketing cute characters such as Tarepanda, Rilakkuma, and Sumikko Gurashi. The characters are usually anthropomorphic representations of animals or inanimate objects. Each character has its own quirky traits; for example, Momobuta is a pig with a head shaped like a peach, who enjoys karaoke and painting her nails. Sumikko Gurashi
Sumikko Gurashi (すみっコぐらし) is a set of fictional characters produced by the Japanese company San-X. The name roughly translates to "life in the corner". The main Sumikko characters are Shirokuma, a polar bear who dislikes the cold, Penguin? who is unsure of being a penguin, Tonkatsu, a piece of leftover Tonkatsu, pork cutlet, Neko, a timid and anxious cat, and Tokage, a dinosaur who pretends to be a lizard. Minor Minniko characters include Furoshiki, a polka dot furoshiki cloth, Zassou, a weed with a positive attitude, and Tapioca, multi-colored leftover Tapioca balls, tapioca pearls. Rilakkuma
is a fictional character produced by the Japanese company San-X and created by Aki Kondo. After the character's launch in 2003, Rilakkuma has been featured on stationery and merchandise created by San-X, as well as several collaboration cafes. Along with picture books and comics, a stop-motion animation series titled '' Rilakkuma and Kaoru'' was broadcast in 2019. Development San-X employee Aki Kondo had previously created characters such as Amagurichan and Mikanbouya. At the time, San-X ordered staff members to create one character per month. After watching a TV show about dogs at the height of the pet boom in Japan, Kondo not only wanted a pet dog, but also envied its life, as she was busy with work and hoped to relax more.
