Yuri Lyapkin
Yuri Evgenievich Lyapkin (born January 21, 1945) is a Russian former professional ice hockey defenceman. Biography Lyapkin is Jewish. He played in the Soviet Hockey League for Khimik Voskresensk and HC Spartak Moscow. He won a gold medal playing for the undefeated Soviet Union team at the 1976 Olympics. He also won world championships with the Soviet team in 1970/71, 72/73, 73/74, and 74/75, and a silver medal in 75/76. He was inducted into the Russian and Soviet Hockey Hall of Fame in 1973. Balashikha ( rus, Балашиха, p=bəlɐˈʂɨxə) is a city in Moscow Oblast, Russia, located on the Pekhorka River east of the Moscow Ring Road. Population: Etymology In Finno-Ugric languages, ''Bala-shika'' means ''land of celebrations, land of laughter and fun.'' Finnic peoples lived in this area before Slavs. Geography The city is known for its unique river and waterway system. The Pekhorka River system covers an area of from north to south and from east to west, and many small lakes and ponds were created by damming to provide water power for the cotton mills in the 19th century. International Jewish Sports Hall Of Fame
The International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame ( he, יד לאיש הספורט היהודי, translit=Yad Le'ish HaSport HaYehudi) was opened July 7, 1981 in Netanya, Israel. It honors Jewish athletes and their accomplishments from anywhere around the world. It is located at the Wingate Institute for Physical Education and Sport. It has inducted over 400 athletes and sportspersons representing 40 countries. The Hall elects new honorees each year, with submissions due December 1 for votes for the following year, and a formal induction ceremony taking place several days prior to the Maccabiah Games every four years. The Hall was founded by Joseph M. Siegman, a television producer and writer who lives in Beverly Hills, California. He chaired the Hall from 1981 to 1989, and later served as chairman of its Selection Committee.
