Yuliya Pechonkina
Yuliya Sergeyevna Pechonkina, née Nosova (russian: Юлия Серге́евна Печёнкина, born 21 April 1978 in Krasnoyarsk) is a Russian former athlete who specialized in the 400 metres hurdles and 4 × 400 metres relay. She was previously married to former sprinter Evgeny Pechonkin. She held the world record in 400 m hurdles (52.34 seconds achieved on 8 August 2003 in Tula) for almost 16 years until it was broken by Dalilah Muhammad on 28 July 2019 and the rarely contested 4 × 200 metres relay indoor (1:32.41 with Yekaterina Kondratyeva, Irina Khabarova and Yuliya Gushchina). She had a recurring problem with sinusitis, an illness which caused her to miss both the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2009 World Championships in Berlin. Given her ill health, she decided to retire from athletics soon after the World Championships and instead took a job in the banking sector. 4 × 200 Metres Relay
The 4 × 200 metres relay is an athletics track event in which teams comprise four runners who each complete 200 metres or half a lap on a standard 400 metre track. The event is a world record eligible event, but is not a standard event at most track meets, though certain leagues regularly conduct this event as part of their program. Dalilah Muhammad
Dalilah Muhammad (born February 7, 1990) is an American track and field athlete who specializes in the 400 meters hurdles. She is the 2016 Rio Olympics champion and 2020 Tokyo Olympics silver medalist, becoming at the latter the second-fastest woman of all time in the event with her personal best of 51.58 seconds. Muhammad was second at both the 2013 and 2017 World Championships to take her first gold in 2019, setting the former world record of 52.16 s. She was the second female 400 m hurdler in history, after Sally Gunnell, to have won the Olympic, World titles and broken the world record. At both the 2019 World Championships and Tokyo Games, she also took gold as part of women's 4×400 metres relay team. Evgeny Pechonkin
Evgeny Gennadyevich Pechonkin (russian: Евгений Геннадьевич Печёнкин; born October 9, 1973, in Krasnodar) is a Russian bobsledder and former track and field athlete who has switched to his current sport in 2005. As a sprint hurdler, he represented Russia at the Olympic Games in 1996, 2000 and 2004. He was the world junior champion in 1992 and competed at the World Championships in Athletics in 1993 and 2001. His best Bobsleigh World Cup finish was second in the four-man event at Cortina d'Ampezzo in January 2008. Pechonkin's best finish at the FIBT World Championships was tenth in the four-man event at Altenberg in 2008. He was banned from athletics for two years after failing a doping test in 2002 for the banned substance norandrosterone. This resulted in the annulling of his Russian national indoor title that year and a bronze medal at the 2002 European Athletics Indoor Championships. The 4 × 400 metres relay or long relay is an athletics track event in which teams consist of four runners who each complete 400 metres or one lap. It is traditionally the final event of a track meet. At top class events, the first leg and the first bend of the second leg are run in lanes. 400 Metres Hurdles
The 400 metres hurdles is a track and field hurdling event. The event has been on the Olympic athletics programme since 1900 for men and since 1984 for women. On a standard outdoor track, 400 metres is the length of the inside lane, once around the stadium. Runners stay in their lanes the entire way after starting out of the blocks and must clear ten hurdles that are evenly spaced around the track. The hurdles are positioned and weighted so that they fall forward if bumped into with sufficient force, to prevent injury to the runners. Although there is no longer any penalty for knocking hurdles over, runners prefer to clear them cleanly, as touching them during the race slows runners down. The best male athletes can run the 400 m hurdles in a time of around 46 seconds, while the very best female athletes achieve a time of around 51 seconds. 2005 European Athletics Indoor Championships
The 2005 European Athletics Indoor Championships were held at the Palacio de Deportes in Madrid, the capital city of Spain, from Friday, 4 March to Sunday, 6 March 2005. This was the first edition to be held in an odd year since switching to the biennial format, so as not to occur in the same as the outdoor European Athletics Championships and also recently moved IAAF World Indoor Championships. To accommodate this change, there was a two-year gap since the previous edition. It also marked the last time that the 200 metres were contested at the event. Russia finished on top of the medal table with 17 medals including 9 gold and a clear lead over Sweden and France. The host nation Spain lost only to Russia on the number of medals but won only one gold and finished fifth overall.
