Yugoslav First Basketball League 1949
The 1949 Yugoslav First Basketball League season is the 5th season of the Yugoslav First Basketball League, the highest professional basketball league in SFR Yugoslavia. It was the first time the competition was held as a traditional league with every team playing every other team twice, home and away. In previous years, the competition had been held as a tournament in a single location. Košarkaški klub Crvena zvezda ( sr-cyrl, Кошаркашки клуб Црвена звезда, ), commonly referred to as KK Crvena zvezda mts for sponsorship reasons or simply Crvena zvezda, is a men's professional basketball Sports club, club based in Belgrade, Serbia and the major part of the SD Crvena Zvezda, Red Star multi-sports club. Aleksandar Nikolić
Aleksandar "Aca" Nikolić ( sr-cyr, Александар "Аца" Николић; 28 October 1924 – 12 March 2000) was a Serbian professional basketball player and coach. He was also a professor at the University of Belgrade's Faculty of Sport and Physical Education. He is often referred to as the Father of Yugoslav Basketball. Nikolić was a mentor of many world-class basketball coaches, such Božidar Maljković, Dušan Ivković, Bogdan Tanjević, Željko Obradović, etc. Nikolić was nicknamed the Professor, the Iron Sergeant. Nikolić was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame as a coach in 1998, and into the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2007. In 2008, he was named one of the 50 Greatest EuroLeague Contributors. Strahinja Alagić
Strahinja "Braca" Alagić ( sr-cyr, Страхиња "Браца" Алагић; 14 August 1924 – 10 October 2002) was a Serbian professional basketball player and coach. He dedicated his coaching career is the most to women's basketball. With Crvena zvezda he won the FIBA EuroLeague Women in 1979. Alagić was a member of the first managing board of the Crvena zvezda basketball club. Playing career Alagić started playing basketball after the end of World War II as a member of the Yugoslav Army basketball team. The first Yugoslav national championship held in Subotica in 1945 where his team won the title by beating the Serbia selection in the finals. Next year he moved to newly formed basketball club Partizan together with seven teammates such as Aleksandar Nikolić and Mirko Marjanović. Milan Marinković (basketball)
Milan "Mile" Marinković ( sr-cyr, Милан Маринковић; born August 11, 1968) is a Bosnian professional basketball coach and former player. Playing career Marinković played for the Crvena zvezda and BFC Beočin of the Yugoslav League. In 1992–93 season, he won the Yugoslav League with Crvena zvezda and played together with Dragoljub Vidačić, Nebojša Ilić, Saša Obradović, Mileta Lisica, Predrag Stojaković, Rastko Cvetković, Aleksandar Trifunović and Dejan Tomašević. During stint with BFC he played the 1995–96 FIBA Korać Cup season. Over two cup games, he averaged 7.5 points and 0.5 rebounds per game. Borko Jovanović
Borivoje "Borko" Jovanović ( sr-cyr, Боривоје "Борко" Јовановић) was a Serbian basketball player. He represented the Yugoslavia national basketball team internationally. Playing career Jovanović played for a Belgrade-based team Crvena zvezda of the Yugoslav First League during 1950s. His teammates were Milan Bjegojević, Ladislav Demšar, Borislav Ćurčić, Dragan Godžić, Aleksandar Gec, Đorđe Andrijašević and many others. He won seven Yugoslav Championships with the Zvezda. Srđan Kalember ( sr-cyr, Срђан Калембер; June 5, 1928 – February 2, 2016), also known in France by his nickname Serge ( sr-cyr, Серж), was a Serbian professional basketball player and coach. He won 9 National Championships with Crvena zvezda. He represented the Yugoslavia national basketball team internationally. Aleksandar Gec
Aleksandar Gec ( sr-cyr, Александар Гец; 3 March 1928 – 12 April 2008) was a Serbian professional basketball player, coach and administrator. He was the first basketball star of Crvena zvezda. He represented the Yugoslavia national basketball team internationally. Early life Gec spent his whole lifetime in Belgrade, where he finished his education. He went to the Third Men's Gymnasium. Playing career Crvena zvezda Gec began playing basketball for Crvena zvezda team in 1945, practically since its foundation. With Crvena zvezda he has won the eight Yugoslav National Championships in a row from 1945 until 1953. Ladislav Demšar ( sr-Cyrl, Ладислав Демшар; March 3, 1928 – May 15, 1992) was a Yugoslav basketball player and coach. He represented the Yugoslavia national basketball team internationally. Playing career Demšar played for Egység from Novi Sad and Crvena zvezda from Belgrade. He missed entire 1953 season. Vasilije "Vasa" Stojković ( sr-Cyrl, Василије Васа Стојковић; January 8, 1923 – June 25, 2008) was a Serbian sports journalist, basketball player and association football executive. Sports journalism career Stojkovic has been engaged in sports journalism for more than 25 years. Tullio Rochlitzer ( hbs, Tulio Roklicer, italic=no; December 23, 1926 – August 16, 2006) was an Italian-Croatian basketball player and coach. He represented Yugoslavia national basketball team internationally. Playing career A guard, Rochlitzer played for his hometown team Zadar and Belgrade-based team Crvena zvezda between 1945 and 1951. During his stint with the Zvezda he won three Yugoslav Championships. In 1951, Rochlitzer fled to Italy. In Italy he played for Gallaratese, Pavia, and Vigevano. He retired as a player with Vigevano in 1960. National team career Yugoslavia Rochlitzer was a member of the Yugoslavia national basketball team that participated at the 1947 European Championship in Prague, Czechoslovakia.
