Yue Chi-ming
Yue Chi-ming (; 10 December 1944 – 10 November 2022) was a Hong Kong actor and singer. Life and career Born in Chenghai, Shantou, Chi-ming started his career as a singer in the 1960s, and in 1976 he was put under contract as an actor by the TVB broadcaster, making his acting debut in the TV-series ''Huānlè jīn xiāo'' (; "Happy Golden Night"). In 1986 he left the showbusiness and moved with his family to Vancouver; returned to Hong Kong in 1997, he successfully reprised his career, specializing in roles of Teochew people, eunuchs and elder characters. Yue died of complications of a stroke on 10 November 2022, at the age of 78. Teochew People
The Teochew people or Chaoshan people (rendered Têo-Swa in romanized Teoswa and Chaoshan in Standard Chinese also known as Teo-Swa in mainland China due to a change in place names) is anyone native to the historical Chaoshan region in south China who speak the Teo-Swa Min (Chaoshan) language (typified by the Chaozhou dialect). Today, most Chaoshan people live throughout Chaoshan, Hong Kong, and also outside China in Southeast Asia, including in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, and Indonesia. A eunuch ( ) is a castrated man. Castration has had a social function in history. In China, castration included the removal of the penis and the testicles (emasculation). A knife removed both organs at the same time. Eunuchs have existed in China since about 146 AD, during the reign of Emperor Huan of Han and were common as civil servants by the Qin dynasty. From ancient times to the Sui dynasty, castration was a traditional punishment (one of the Five Punishments) and a means of gaining employment in the imperial service. Some eunuchs, such as the Ming dynasty official Zheng He, gained power that superseded that of the Grand Secretaries. Self-castration was not uncommon, although it was not always performed thoroughly and was later banned.
