Ysgol Gymraeg Pwll Coch
Ysgol Gymraeg Pwll Coch is a large Welsh-medium primary school in the Canton area of western Cardiff, in Wales. General Ysgol Gymraeg Pwll Coch is a Welsh-medium primary school which provides education for pupils from a wide and diverse area of west Cardiff, including Riverside and parts of Canton, Pontcanna and Victoria Park. There are 520 pupils between 3 and 11 years old on roll, including 64 part-time nursery age pupils. Pupils are divided into 18 single-age classes. The school feeds Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf and Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Plasmawr Welsh-medium secondary schools. Welsh is the main medium of the school's life and work, although in 2019 only 10% of the pupils came from Welsh-speaking homes. About 25% of pupils came from ethnic minority backgrounds. Welsh Medium Education
Education delivered through the medium of the Welsh language is known as Welsh-medium education (). Welsh-medium education should be distinguished from the teaching of the Welsh language itself as an academic subject. 16% of pupils in Wales attend Welsh-medium schools, with a further 10 percent attending schools that are bilingual, dual-medium, or in English with significant Welsh provision. River Ely
The River Ely ( cy, Afon Elái) is in South Wales flowing generally southeast, from Tonyrefail to Cardiff. The river is about long. The Ely's numerous sources lie in the mountains to the south of Tonypandy, near the town of Tonyrefail, rising in the eastern slopes of Mynydd Penygraig (Penygraig) and Mynydd y Gilfach ( Penrhiwfer) and the western slopes of Mynydd Dinas ( Williamstown), whose eastern slopes feed the Rhondda by Porth. The source of the Ogwr Fach lies just to the west. After flowing through Tonyrefail and through the grounds of the Royal Glamorgan Hospital at Ynysmaerdy, it follows the A4119 road through the valley pass formed between Mynydd Garthmaelwg, to the west and Llantrisant, to the east. Mudiad Meithrin ("Nursery Movement"), formerly Mudiad Ysgolion Meithrin ("Nursery Schools Movement") is a voluntary movement specialising in the provision of Welsh-medium early years education, including nursery groups. It aims to give every young child in Wales the opportunity to benefit from early years services and experiences through the medium of Welsh. These voluntary groups are often crucial in the subsequent establishment of a Welsh-medium primary school in the area. Mark Drakeford
Mark Drakeford (born 19 September 1954) is a Welsh politician serving as First Minister of Wales and Leader of Welsh Labour since 2018. He previously served in the Welsh Government as Cabinet Secretary for Finance from 2016 to 2018 and Minister for Health and Social Services from 2013 to 2016. Drakeford was first elected as the Member of the Senedd (MS) for Cardiff West in 2011. Drakeford was born in Carmarthen in West Wales. Fitzalan High School
Fitzalan High School () is an 11–18 mixed, English-medium community secondary school and sixth form in Leckwith, Cardiff, Wales. History Fitzalan High School has links to Cardiff's first municipal secondary school at Howard Gardens, Adamsdown in 1884. The school later became Howardian High School and a Grammar School in 1941. Much of the school was subsequently destroyed by incendiary bombs in the Cardiff Blitz during the night of 3–4 March 1941 in World War II. The school's girls and boys relocated to newly built buildings, Lady Margaret High School for Girls (1948) and Howardian High School for Boys (1953), in Penylan. The Battle of St Fagans was a pitched battle during the Second English Civil War in 1648. A detachment from the New Model Army defeated an army of former Parliamentarian soldiers who had rebelled and were now fighting against Parliament. Background In April 1648, Parliamentarian troops in Wales, who had not been paid for a long time and feared that they were about to be disbanded without their arrears of pay, staged a Royalist rebellion under the command of Colonel John Poyer, the Governor of Pembroke Castle.
