Ysgol Gyfun Garth Olwg
Ysgol Garth Olwg (previously named Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen and Ysgol Gyfun Garth Olwg), English Garth Olwg School is a Welsh-medium comprehensive school in the village of Church Village near Pontypridd, in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. It was the first Welsh language comprehensive school in the south of Wales. Attention was brought upon the school in 2009 with the revival of a campaign to retain the name of ''Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen'', for reasons of historical significance, in protest over the local council's decision to rename the school ''Ysgol Gyfun Garth Olwg''. Gwent ( owl, Guent) was a medieval Welsh kingdom, lying between the Rivers Wye and Usk. Richard Lynch (Welsh Actor)
Richard Lynch is a Welsh television and film actor best known for playing the character of Garry Monk in S4C's long-running Welsh-language soap ''Pobol y Cwm''. Early life Lynch is an alumnus of Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen, a Welsh Medium comprehensive school near Pontypridd. He graduated with in Drama from Aberystwyth University in 1987. Career Lynch first came to prominence in the 1986 Karl Francis' film ''Milwr Bychan'' playing young soldier ''Will Thomas''. Further film appearances include ''Branwen'' (1994), '' Darklands'' (1996), ''The Proposition'' (1997), and ''Y Mabinogi'' (2003). Daniel Evans (actor)
Daniel Gwyn Evans (born 31 July 1973) is a Welsh actor and director. Background Evans was born in the Rhondda Valley in Wales. Evans started acting early in life, going to the Urdd Eisteddfod, and beginning to compete there from the age of five or six, as well as going to many amateur productions. He realised it was what he wanted to do aged 8, and aged 17, he won the Richard Burton Memorial Prize at the National Eisteddfod of Wales. A year later, he won the Chair at the Urdd Eisteddfod. He attended Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen near Pontypridd, a Welsh-language secondary school which has nurtured many actors. Ieuan Rhys (born 24 December 1961) is a Welsh actor. His television work has included thirteen years in the BBC Cymru soap opera ''Pobol y Cwm'', Seargent Tom Swann in the last series of ''A Mind to Kill'' (for Fiction Factory/ Channel 5) and six series of the Welsh-language version of '' Mr & Mrs'' – ''Sion a Sian'' for HTV. Richard Harrington (actor)
Richard Harrington (born 12 March 1975) is a Welsh actor. Early and personal life Harrington was born in Gurnos and brought up in Heolgerrig, Merthyr Tydfil. Harrington speaks Welsh as a second language; he came from an English-speaking family but studied in a Welsh Medium school in Merthyr. He has said that filming ''Y Gwyll'' improved his fluency significantly. Harrington has two children with a former girlfriend and a son, born in 2019, with his partner Hannah Daniel, with whom he lives in Crystal Palace, London. Abuse is the improper usage or treatment of a thing, often to unfairly or improperly gain benefit. John Owen (author)
John Owen (1952–2001) was a children's author and director and is best known for his Welsh language, Welsh teen television drama “Pam fi Duw” ''(Why me God)'', a series of books and TV programmes which he wrote and directed. In 1995, 1997 and 1999 he won the Tir na n-Og Award#List of Prize Winners, Tir na n-Og Award for the best Welsh Language fiction book for Children. Owen was a former Drama teacher and Head of Lower school at Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen near Pontypridd, South Wales. He was arrested for five serious sex offences in 2001 after four former pupils came forward. He killed himself before facing trial. The Children's Commissioner for Wales is responsible for protecting children's rights as set out in the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Peter Clarke was the Commissioner from its introduction in 2001 until his death in 2007. The job interview process was notable for including children as panelists alongside adults. Keith Towler was Wales' second Children's Commissioner between 2008 and 2015. Prof Sally Holland was Children's Commissioner between 2015 and 2022. Peter Clarke (social Worker)
Peter Clarke (7 October 1948 – 21 January 2007) was a prominent child welfare activist in Wales. Clarke was born in Llandudno. His early life included military training at Sandhurst, from which he moved on to social work in London and Brighton, studying philosophy (BA & MA) at Sussex University. Clarke worked first at the Stamford House Remand Home in London. In 1985 he became community care advisor for the Spastics Society (now named Scope). From 1991 he was a director of the National Schizophrenia Fellowship, and from 1995 a director of '' Childline Cymru'' and worked for many voluntary organisations. He is most well known for his work as Children's Commissioner for Wales, a post created in 2001 which he held until his death at age 58 from cancer. Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council
Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council ( cy, Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Rhondda Cynon Taf) is the governing body for Rhondda Cynon Taf, one of the Principal Areas of Wales. The council headquarters are located in the community of Cwm Clydach on the outskirts of Tonypandy. History The council was established on 1 April 1996 under the Local Government (Wales) Act 1994, covering the area of the three former districts of Rhondda, Cynon Valley, and Taff-Ely (except Pentyrch, which went to Cardiff). As well as taking over the functions of the abolished district councils, the new authority also took over the functions of the abolished Mid Glamorgan County Council in the area.
