Youth (Citizen Album)
''Youth'' is the debut studio album by American rock band Citizen, released June 11, 2013 on Run for Cover Records. Background and production Citizen formed in 2009 with members located in Michigan and Ohio. The group released a handful of singles and an EP, ''Young States'' (2011). In March 2012, it was announced the band signed to Run for Cover. Citizen entered Studio 4 with producer Will Yip ( Title Fight, Circa Survive, Braid), in February 2013, to record their debut album, ''Youth''. Composition ''Youth'' has been described predominantly as emoCarter 2014, p. 53 and grunge, but has also variably been labeled indie rock, punk rock, pop punk and post-hardcore. It drew comparisons to Brand New, Basement, the Story So Far, Transit, Title Fight and Daylight. Lyrically, the release discusses the themes of coming-of-age and adolescent angst. Citizen is an American rock band from Southeast Michigan and Northwest Ohio that formed in 2009. The band consists of three core members: Mat Kerekes (vocals) and brothers Nick Hamm (lead guitar), & Eric Hamm (bass). Brand New (band)
Brand New was an American rock band from Long Island, New York. Formed in 2000, the band consisted of Jesse Lacey (vocals, guitar), Vincent Accardi (guitar, vocals), Garrett Tierney (bass guitar, vocals) and Brian Lane (drums, percussion); they were joined by Benjamin Homola (percussion) for their live performances. From 2005 to 2013, the band also included Derrick Sherman (guitar, backing vocals, keyboards). The band is recognized as one of the most influential within the 2000s emo scene, celebrated for making artistic statements with their music. Lacey, Tierney and Lane all played in the band the Rookie Lot, from Levittown, New York. Lacey was also the founding bassist for Taking Back Sunday before leaving. ''Alternative Press'' is an American entertainment magazine primarily focused on music and culture, now based in Los Angeles, CA. It generally provides readers with band interviews, photos, and relevant news. It was founded in 1985 by Mike Shea in Cleveland, OH. The company is now looked after by MDDN. Beginnings The first issue of ''Alternative Press'' was distributed at concerts in Cleveland, Ohio beginning in June 1985 by ''APs founder, Mike Shea to advocate bands playing underground music. Man Overboard (band)
Man Overboard is an American pop punk band from Mt. Laurel and Williamstown, New Jersey that began in 2008. Since then, they had released two EPs, an acoustic EP, a split with Boston pop punk band Transit, a compilation and four full-length albums. Taking influence from such pop punk acts as Blink-182, Saves the Day, and Taking Back Sunday, Man Overboard played a brand of upbeat and poppy pop punk with the emotion of 90s emo acts such as The Promise Ring. Pop Rock
Pop rock (also typeset as pop/rock) is a fusion genre with an emphasis on professional songwriting and recording craft, and less emphasis on attitude than rock music. Placebo (band)
Placebo are a British rock band, formed in London in 1994 by vocalist–guitarist Brian Molko and bassist–guitarist Stefan Olsdal. Drummer Robert Schultzberg joined in late 1994, but left in 1996 shortly after the release of the band's eponymous debut album due to conflicts with Molko, and was replaced the same year by Steve Hewitt. Following the release of a demo, a split single, and their eponymous debut album, Placebo gained exposure in 1997 after the single " Nancy Boy" became popular in the UK, a song notorious at the time for its gender-bending content. The band stood out amongst the Britpop scene they were associated with at the time for their androgynous appearance and musical content, and lyrics which openly discussed sexuality, mental health, and drug use. Manchester Orchestra is an American indie rock band from Atlanta formed in 2004. The group is composed of rhythm guitarist-singer-songwriter Andy Hull, lead guitarist Robert McDowell, bassist Andy Prince and drummer Tim Very. ''Jar'' is the debut studio album by American rock band Superheaven, released on April 30, 2013. It was originally released under the band's prior name, Daylight, which has since been changed due to a legal dispute. The album peaked at no. 184 on the ''Billboard'' 200. On January 10, 2023, Superheaven announced that they would go on a small tour of the East and West Coasts in honor of the album's 10th anniversary. Hard Rock
Hard rock or heavy rock is a loosely defined subgenre of rock music typified by aggressive vocals and distorted electric guitars. Hard rock began in the mid-1960s with the garage, psychedelic and blues rock movements. Some of the earliest hard rock music was produced by the Kinks, the Who, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Cream, Vanilla Fudge, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Superheaven (formerly known as Daylight) is an American alternative rock band from Doylestown, Pennsylvania, a borough outside of Philadelphia and within the Philadelphia metro area.
