The Youngstown State Penguins baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio, United States. The team is a member of the Horizon League, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. The team plays its home games at Eastwood Field in Niles, Ohio. Horizon League
The Horizon League is an 11-school collegiate athletic conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, whose members are located in and near the Great Lakes region. The Horizon League founded in 1979 as the Midwestern City Conference. The conference changed its name to Midwestern Collegiate Conference in 1985 and then the Horizon League in 2001. The conference started with a membership of six teams and has fluctuated in size with 24 different schools as members at different times. The League currently has 11 members. Its most recent membership changes occurred on July 1, 2022 with the departure of the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) to the Missouri Valley Conference. Dan Bertolini
Daniel Bertolini (October 19, 1985) is an American baseball coach and former shortstop, who is the current head baseball coach at Youngstown State. He played college baseball at Mercyhurst University for coach Joe Spano from 2005 to 2008 before playing 1 season in the Frontier League in 2008. He was the head coach at Mercyhurst North East (2009–2016). Playing career Bertolini attended Poland Seminary High School in Poland, Ohio. Bertolini played for the school's varsity baseball and basketball teams for three years. Bertolini then enrolled at Mercyhurst University, to play college baseball for the Mercyhurst Lakers baseball team. As a freshman at Mercyhurst University in 2005, Bertolini had a .268 batting average, a .333 on-base percentage (OBP) and a .307 SLG. Eastwood Field
Eastwood Field is a minor league baseball stadium located in Niles, Ohio, United States. It is currently the home of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, a collegiate summer baseball team of the MLB Draft League. History Eastwood Field opened for the season, when the Erie SeaWolves franchise was relocated to Niles upon the granting of an expansion Eastern League franchise to Erie. With an official seating capacity is 6,000, the park was originally known as Cafaro Field, named for William M. Cafaro, founder of the real estate developer the Cafaro Company. The Youngstown State Penguins are the athletic teams of Youngstown State University of Youngstown, Ohio. The university is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) Division I, and the Penguins compete in football as members of the Missouri Valley Football Conference. Steve Gillispie in an American college baseball coach, formerly the head coach of the Youngstown State Penguins baseball program. He served in that role from 2013–2016.
