Youngsan Won Buddhist University
Youngsan University of Seonstudies is a private religious university located in Yeonggwang County, South Jeolla province, South Korea. It offers graduate and undergraduate training in Won Buddhism and related matters. History The predecessor of the university was founded on April 1, 1927, as Youngsan Hagwon (영산학원/靈山學院), a private academy for training Won Buddhist clergy. It closed down for three years at the end of World War II, from 1944 to 1947, and again during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. It closed down once again in 1957, to be reopened as a religious school recognized by the government in 1964. 1964 is thus recognized by some as the date of the school's actual founding. The school became a college in 1986, and a university in 1997. Yeonggwang County
Yeonggwang County (''Yeonggwang-gun'') is a county in South Jeolla Province, South Korea. Speciality Yeonggwang is a large producer of a fish, the small yellow croaker which are sometimes given by Korean people as a gift to others. It is called ''Yeonggwang gulbi'' (meaning "dried croaker") among Koreans, and it is nicknamed "rice thief" because of its wide popularity. The fish originated from the Goryeo Dynasty. They migrate northward from the East China Sea, where they spend the winter season, to Yeonpyeongdo Island, to spawn at the start of the thawing season. They spawn at sea in front of Chilsan, near Beopseongpo in Yeonggwang, between April 10 and 30, while moving northward. South Jeolla Province (; ''Jeollanam-do''; ), also known as Jeonnam, is a province of South Korea. Won Buddhism
Won Buddhism ( ko, 원불교, Wǒnbulgyo, label=none), is a modern religion originating in Korea. It can be regarded as either a syncretic new religious movement or a reformed Buddhism. The name "Won Buddhism" comes from the Korean words 원/圓 won ("circle") and 불교/佛敎 bulgyo ("Buddhism"), literally meaning "Round Buddhism" or interpreted as "Consummate Buddhism." Hagwon () is the Korean-language word for a for-profit private institute, academy, or cram school prevalent in South Korea.
