Mary Youngblood (Aleut/Seminole) is a Native American musician, and performer of the Native American flute. Life and career Mary Youngblood was born in Kirkland, Washington, and adopted as a child by Dr. Bob and Leah Edwards, both educators. She has been awarded three Native American Music Awards, being the first female artist to win "Flutist of the Year," which she won in both 1999 and 2000, as well as winning "Best Female Artist" in 2000. She is also the first Native American woman to have received a Grammy Award for "Best Native American Music Album", and the first Native American woman to have won two Grammys, the first for '' Beneath the Raven Moon'' in 2002 and ''Dance with the Wind'' in 2006. Thomas Youngblood (born May 29, 1974) is an American metal guitarist, songwriter, and founding member of power metal band Kamelot. Early life At the age of 12, after the death of his father, Youngblood moved from Virginia to Florida where he started learning to play guitar at age 15. Shortly after his move he began playing in his first band with school mates from the neighborhood. Through this he met drummer Richard Warner, and they decided to start a band together. Career Kamelot was founded in Tampa, Florida by Youngblood and Richard Warner in 1991. They signed their first contract in 1994 with German label Noise Records. Sydney Ford (born December 2, 1960), better known as Sydney Youngblood, is an American-German singer, actor and composer, who had several successful dance hits during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Early life Ford was born in Texas in December 1960. From an early age he loved singing. He won a competition aged six in his hometown where his grandmother called him ‘youngblood’ for his ‘vibrancy’ to perform. He played in a number of bands but at age twenty, he was drafted into the US army and served in Germany for five years. Rufus Wayne Youngblood, Jr. (January 13, 1924 – October 2, 1996) was a United States Secret Service agent best known for using his body to shield Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson during the assassination of John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963. Early life Youngblood was born in Macon, Georgia. His father was a railroad worker who died in a rail accident when Rufus was only two. He was left with his mother, whose permission he asked before enlisting in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a waist gunner in the 91st bomb group 324 bomb squadron on some of America's first bombing raids on Germany. He earned a Purple Heart during the war. Rosita C. Youngblood (born December 20, 1946) is a former Democratic member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, representing the 198th District from 1994 until 2020. She was the first black woman to hold a position in Pennsylvania House leadership. She was elected to the House in a special election on April 5, 1994 to fill a vacancy. Her work explores issues of African-American identity and representation.
