Young Sherlocks
''Young Sherlocks'' is a 1922 American silent short subject comedy film, the fourth entry in Hal Roach's ''Our Gang'' series. Directed by Robert F. McGowan and Tom McNamara, the two-reel short was released to theaters in November 1922 by Pathé. Plot The film begins with Ernie using his ingenuity to overcome his poverty and find a way to feed his little sister Farina and his steed, Dinah the mule. He encounters Jackie, who is selling newspapers, and learns about a kidnapper who is at large. Ernie then stumbles into a secret meeting of several young boys, including Mickey Daniels and Jack Davis, who call themselves the JJJs (Jesse James Juniors). They tell him that he is unwelcome in their meeting unless he can tell them what good deed he has ever done. He responds by spinning a long, and very unbelievable, tall tale of how he, Jackie, and Dinah rescued Peggy from the kidnappers. Charley Chase
Charles Joseph Parrott (October 20, 1893 – June 20, 1940), known professionally as Charley Chase, was an American comedian, actor, screenwriter and film director. He worked for many pioneering comedy studios but is chiefly associated with producer Hal Roach. Chase was the elder brother of comedian/director James Parrott. Life and career Born Charles Joseph Parrott in Baltimore, Maryland, Charley Chase began performing in vaudeville as a teenager and started his career in films by working at the Christie Film Company in 1912. He then moved to Keystone Studios, where he began appearing in bit parts in the Mack Sennett films, including those of Charlie Chaplin. By 1915 he was playing juvenile leads in the Keystones, and directing some of the films as Charles Parrott. William Gillespie (actor)
William Gillespie (24 January 1894 – 23 June 1938) was a Scottish actor. Biography Gillespie started in Hollywood films from the silent era. He played in about 180 films between 1915 and 1939, although his appearances were often uncredited. Gillespie frequently appeared in Hal Roach comedies from 1917, usually as stuffy official or manager. He supported such "slapstick comedians" as Charlie Chaplin, Charley Chase, Our Gang, and Laurel and Hardy, but was most prolific supporting Harold Lloyd in 60 films. George Rowe (actor)
George Dewey Thompson Rowe (September 15, 1894 – February 5, 1975) was an American character actor of the silent film era, known for his cross-eyed look. Born in Maine in 1894, Rowe broke into the film industry in the 1919 short film, ''Tough Luck'', starring Snub Pollard. Over his ten-year career, he appeared in over 125 shorts, many of which for Hal Roach, including several with Stan Laurel and in the iconic Our Gang series. His Roach Studio contract was terminated in 1925, after which he toured the West Coast in vaudeville for a time. Rowe's film career ended with the advent of sound film. In February 1919, Rowe was married to Wanda Lorraine Rowe. Rowe died on February 5, 1975, in Santa Barbara, California, at the age of 80, and was interred at the Santa Barbara Cemetery. His widow died on April 26, 1983, at the age of 90 and was interred at the same cemetery alongside him.
