Young Romance (film)
''Young Romance'' is a 1915 American silent romance film directed and produced by George Melford. The film is based on the play of the same name by William C. deMille who also wrote the screenplay. Edith Taliaferro, who made only three films in her career, stars in this film which is the only one of her films that still exists. George Melford
George H. Melford (born George Henry Knauff, February 19, 1877 – April 25, 1961) was an American stage and film actor and director. Often taken for granted as a director today, the stalwart Melford's name by the 1920s was, like Cecil B. DeMille's, appearing in big bold letters above the title of his films. Early years Born in Rochester, New York, in 1877 (though older sources state 1888), he was the son of German immigrant Henrietta Knauff. Melford had four sisters: Mary Knauff (Mrs. Godfrey Willis Wainwright); Henrietta Knauff; Alice Irene Knauff (Mrs. Edmond Francois Bernoudy) — all of Los Angeles — and Mrs. Frederick Kells/Keils of Ottawa, Canada. Melford graduated from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Florence Dagmar
Florence Dagmar Oberg (October 22, 1895 – May 7, 1986) was an American silent film actress. She had several leading roles and worked for the Famous Players-Lasky film company, appearing at least twice with Thomas Meighan and Victor Moore while being directed by Cecil B. DeMille. Born to Swedish parents in Oregon, Dagmar was a stage actress in the Pacific Northwest before relocating with her family to Los Angeles and pursuing a film career. She began her film career in 1914, appearing in several features including DeMille's '' The Man from Home''. She subsequently appeared in DeMille's ''Kindling'' (1915). Other credits include the drama '' Blackbirds'', the Western ''Chimmie Fadden Out West'', and '' The Clown''. Biography Dagmar was born in Portland, Oregon in 1895. ''Photoplay'' was one of the first American film (another name for ''photoplay'') fan magazines. It was founded in 1911 in Chicago, the same year that J. Stuart Blackton founded '' Motion Picture Story,'' a magazine also directed at fans. For most of its run, ''Photoplay'' was published by Macfadden Publications. In 1921 ''Photoplay'' established what is considered the first significant annual movie award. The magazine ceased publication in 1980.
