You Got It (album)
''You Got It'' was the second full-length album from Boston, Massachusetts hardcore punk/speed metal band, Gang Green. It was released in 1987, a year after their previous release, ''Another Wasted Night'', in 1986. It was their first for a major record label – Roadrunner Records – after leaving independent punk label, Taang. Chris Doherty and Brian Betzger were the only surviving members from the previous album. Joe Gittleman replaced Glen Stilphen on bass, and Fritz Ericson replaced Chuck Stilphen on lead guitar after "a major dispute". The brothers had since formed a band of their own called Mallethead. Overview Earlier versions of "Let's Drink Some Beer" and "Another Bomb" can be found on the German version of the band's debut LP "Another Wasted Night" on Funhouse Records. Another Wasted Night
''Another Wasted Night'' was the first full-length album from Boston, Massachusetts hardcore punk/speed metal band, Gang Green. It is perhaps best remembered for their punk cover of the tune " Voices Carry", written by Aimee Mann for her band 'Til Tuesday. Background In 1985 Chris Doherty reemerged with an all new Gang Green lineup consisting of former members of Smegma and the Nunz, D.A.M.M. (Drunks Against Mad Mothers) and The Freeze. This new lineup, which consisted of Chuck Stilphen (lead guitar), Glen Stilphen (bass, vocals) and Walter Gustafson (drums), is the most famous nationally as it was both the first to tour and the one that recorded the songs "Alcohol" and "Skate to Hell". Hardcore Punk
Hardcore punk (also known as simply hardcore) is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. It is generally faster, harder, and more aggressive than other forms of punk rock. Its roots can be traced to earlier punk scenes in San Francisco and Punk rock in California, Southern California which arose as a reaction against the still predominant History of the hippie movement, hippie cultural climate of the time. ''I81B4U'' was an EP from Boston hardcore punk / speed metal band, Gang Green. It was released in 1988, after the previous year's debut for Roadrunner Records, ''You Got It'' and before 1989's release, '' Older... Budweiser''. The title is a reference to Van Halen's album, ''OU812'' released in the same year. I81B4U translates phonetically to "I Ate One Before You". Overview This EP shows the band's musical style as an intermediate point between hardcore punk and speed metal – also known as crossover thrash. Sing-along choruses and distinguished riffs combined with proficient guitar solos are trademarks of both of the former subgenres. A few songs featured the band's trademark melodic mutant rock and roll style; "Bartender" and "Lost Chapter" have frequently been played during live shows. Roadrunner Records is an American record label focused on heavy metal and hard rock bands. Founded in the Netherlands in 1980, it is now a division of Warner Music Group and is based in New York City. History The label was launched in 1980 in the Netherlands. Roadrunner's initial business was importing North American metal-band recordings into Europe. Gang Green
Gang Green is an American punk rock band originally from Braintree, Massachusetts. Chris Doherty (guitar), Bill Manley (bass) and Mike Dean (drums) started the band in 1980 and broke up in 1983. Doherty reformed Gang Green the following year, and the band experienced numerous lineup changes until its dissolution for the second time in 1992. Doherty has been the band's only constant member and has kept Gang Green active from 2005 onwards. Crossover Thrash
Crossover thrash (often abbreviated to crossover) is a fusion genre of thrash metal and hardcore punk. The genre lies on a continuum between heavy metal and hardcore punk. Other genres on the same continuum, such as metalcore and grindcore, may overlap with crossover thrash. Heavy Metal Music
Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and United States.
