Yotvata Airfield
Yotvata Airfield ( he, מנחת יטבתה) is a small desert airfield in south Israel 40 km north of Eilat adjacent to Kibbutz Yotvata. The runway is in a state of disrepair. It is unused except for agricultural flights and is listed as the contingency airport for nearby Eilat Airport and Ovda International Airport. Eilat Airport ( he, שְׂדֵה הַתְּעוּפָה אֵילַת, Namal HaTe'ufa Eilat; ar, مطار إيلات ), also known as J. Hozman Airport, was an airport located in Eilat, Israel. It was named after Arkia Airlines founder Yakov Hozman (Jacob Housman) and was located in the center of Eilat adjacent to Route 90 (The Arava Road). Due to its short runway and limited capacity it mainly handled domestic flights from Tel Aviv (Sde Dov Airport and to a lesser extent Ben Gurion Airport) and Haifa Airports, while Uvda International Airport, located some north of the city handled Eilat's international carriers. The airport was expected to cease operations on October 27, 2018 with the opening of the new Ramon Airport. However, the opening of the new airport was delayed until January 21, 2019. Ovda Airport
Ovda Airport is a military air base and former Joint-use airport, joint-use civilian airport in the Uvda (Israel), Uvda region of southern Israel, about north of Eilat. It was the country's second international airport. Ovda was originally built as a military airbase in 1980 following Israel's withdrawal from the Sinai Peninsula as part of the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty because the Israeli Air Force needed alternative airfields to its Sinai bases. The airport ceased handling civilian flights on 31 March 2019 thanks to the opening of Ramon Airport, which is located much closer to the city of Eilat than Ovda. In 2020 a plan was announced to establish ''Airpark,'' a large commercial aircraft boneyard, aircraft storage facility at Ovda capable of storing hundreds of aircraft.
