Yoshitoshi Records
Yoshitoshi Recordings is a dance music record label which is owned and operated by (Washington, D.C.) house producer Sharam. It was founded in 1994. While pigeonholed as a progressive label, its releases in fact cover a broad spectrum of modern dance music, reflecting the eclectic tastes of its owners. The first release on the label was Submarine's self-titled single. Deep Dish developed offshoot dance labels ''Deep Dish,'' ''Shinichi'' and ''Yo'' as well, each catering to a slightly different genre of house music. In addition, they owned and operated a retail store (also named ''Yoshitoshi'') in the Georgetown area of D.C. The store sold an extensive selection of dance records of all genres including drum n bass and breakbeat, as well as clothing, mixtapes and record bags. The store closed in 2003, although their labels continue to release music, mostly in digital format with occasional CDs and vinyl projects. Dance Music
Dance music is music composed specifically to facilitate or accompany dancing. It can be either a whole musical piece or part of a larger musical arrangement. In terms of performance, the major categories are live dance music and recorded dance music. While there exist attestations of the combination of dance and music in ancient times (for example Ancient Greek vases sometimes show dancers accompanied by musicians), the earliest Western dance music that we can still reproduce with a degree of certainty are old fashioned dances. A submarine (or sub) is a watercraft capable of independent operation underwater. It differs from a submersible, which has more limited underwater capability. Deep Dish (band)
Deep Dish is an American electronic music duo, consisting of Ali "Dubfire" Shirazinia and Sharam Tayebi. Biography Based in Washington, D.C., it is well known for providing house or dance remixes of tracks of famous artists such as Madonna, Janet Jackson, Cher, Stevie Nicks and Gabrielle, and for its live DJ sets. Its collaborations and remixing abilities first came to attention with its seminal 1995 remix of De'Lacy's " Hideaway". Deep Dish's album ''Junk Science'' was released in 1998. The duo was nominated for a Grammy for their remix of Madonna's "Music", and won a Best Remixed Recording Grammy for its remix of Dido's "Thank You". House Music
House is a music genre characterized by a repetitive Four on the floor (music), four-on-the-floor beat and a typical tempo of 120 beats per minute. It was created by Disc jockey, DJs and music producers from Chicago metropolitan area, Chicago's underground Clubbing (subculture), club culture in the late 1970s, as DJs began altering disco songs to give them a more mechanical beat. House was pioneered by African Americans, African American DJs and producers in Chicago such as Frankie Knuckles, Ron Hardy, Jesse Saunders, Chip E., Steve "Silk" Hurley, Farley "Jackmaster" Funk, Marshall Jefferson, Phuture, and others. Richard Morel is an American singer-songwriter, DJ, remixer and record producer from the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts. He has worked extensively with Washington D.C.-based duo Deep Dish, co-writing, co-producing, performing and singing on many of their tracks, most notably on their albums ''Junk Science'' and ''George Is On''.
