Yorkville is an unincorporated community in Mendocino County, California. It is located southwest of Hopland, at an elevation of 922 feet (281 m). The original townsite was about 3 miles (5 km) northwest of the present site at . The Yorkville post office opened in 1868 and moved to the new site with the town in 1937. "The Late Pomo or Ma-cu-maks of the present day Yorkville area spoke the central Pomo language." The name honors R.H. York, the town's founder. The Yorkville Highlands AVA was established in 1998. Hopland (formerly Sanel) is a census-designated place in Mendocino County, California, United States. Pomo People
The Pomo are an Indigenous people of California. Historical Pomo territory in Northern California was large, bordered by the Pacific Coast to the west, extending inland to Clear Lake, and mainly between Cleone and Duncans Point. One small group, the Northeastern Pomo, lived in the vicinity of present-day Stonyford in Colusa County, separated from the core Pomo area by lands inhabited by Yuki and Wintuan speakers. The Yorkville Highlands AVA is an American Viticultural Area located in southern Mendocino County, California. The Yorkville Highlands separate Sonoma County's Alexander Valley AVA from Mendocino County's Anderson Valley AVA. The soil in the Yorkville Highlands is rocky with a high gravel content, which provides excellent drainage. Galbreath Wildlands Preserve
The Galbreath Wildlands Preserve is a nature reserve in Mendocino County, California, United States, established in 2004 in honor of Fred Burckhalter Galbreath (1901-2000). The preserve, a former sheep ranch, is located in the Outer Coast Range from the coast, near Yorkville. The Preserve features woodland, forest and grassland communities that lie at the edge of coastal fog influence.
