Yorkshire South Premier League
The Yorkshire South Premier League was formed in early 2016, as part of the restructuring of club cricket in Yorkshire, and is an ECB Premier League. Of the twelve initial teams competing, seven came from the now disbanded Yorkshire ECB County Premier League (Appleby Frodingham, Barnsley, Cleethorpes, Doncaster Town, Rotherham Town, Sheffield and Phoenix United, and Sheffield Collegiate), four from the South Yorkshire Premier League (Aston Hall, Treeton, Whitley Hall and Wickersley Old Village) and one from the Central Yorkshire League (Wakefield Thornes). The League headquarters is based in Bircotes, Doncaster. A process of promotion and relegation is in operation with the bottom two teams being replaced each season by the top two teams from the South Yorkshire Championship, as the South Yorkshire Premier League is now known. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is the Sports governing body, national governing body of cricket in England and Wales. Barnsley Cricket Club
Barnsley Woolley Miners Cricket Club members play in the Yorkshire ECB County Premier Leaguebr> the club won the league title in 2006 for the first time in its history. The club is based at Shaw Lane (Cricket Ground), which hosted four Benson and Hedges Cup ties in the 1970s and one first class match between Yorkshire and an All England XI in the 19th century. Cricket Competitions In Yorkshire
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. North Yorkshire And South Durham Cricket League
The North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League, commonly abbreviated to NYSD, is the top level competition for recreational club cricket in the north of Yorkshire and south of Durham, England. The league was founded as long ago as 1892, the first competition was held in the following year. The league chose to play an official, if shortened, competition after most ECB Premier Leagues formally cancelled the 2020 season due the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a successful league in the country, in national inter-league competitive cricket, having won the LCC National inter-league competition (latterly known as the Presidents Trophy) on no fewer than 12 occasions. ECB Premier Leagues
The ECB Premier Leagues are a series of regional cricket leagues organised by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) that form the top tier of club cricket in England and Wales. The ECB published "Raising the Standard" in 1997, the ECB Management Board Blueprint for the Future Playing Structure of cricket. This introduced the concept of ECB Premier Leagues, designed to raise the playing standard of the top tier of club cricket and to bridge the gap between recreational cricket and the First Class game. The Yorkshire Premier League North was formed in early 2016 following the re-structure of club cricket within Yorkshire, and is an ECB Premier League. Of the initial twelve competing teams, six were from the now disbanded Yorkshire ECB County Premier League - Castleford, Driffield Town, Harrogate, Hull, York, and Yorkshire CCC Academy. The other six teams were from the York & District Senior Cricket League - Acomb, Dunnington, Scarborough, Sheriff Hutton Bridge, Stamford Bridge, and Woodhouse Grange. The Bradford Premier League (currently known as the Gordon Rigg Bradford Premier League for sponsorship reasons) is an amateur cricket competition centred in Bradford, West Yorkshire. It has been described as "arguably England's strongest amateur competition." This is despite most people being aware that top clubs have player wage bills in the 5 figure brackets.
