York Mediale
York Mediale was an international media arts festival produced by Mediale. It was founded in 2014 and incorporated as a charity in June 2020. It is linked to the city's position as the only UNESCO City of Media Arts. History York Mediale was founded in 2014. It hosted its first festival, of the same name, in 2018. A Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) is a corporate form of business designed for (and only available to) charitable organisations in England and Wales, similar to (but with important differences from) a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation. Isaac Julien
Sir Isaac Julien (born 21 February 1960Annette Kuhn"Julien, Isaac (1960–)" BFI Screen Online.) is a British installation artist, filmmaker, and distinguished professor of the arts at UC Santa Cruz. Early life Julien was born in the East End of London, one of the five children of his parents, who had migrated to Britain from St Lucia. He graduated in 1985 from Saint Martin's School of Art, where he studied painting and fine art film. He co-founded Sankofa Film and Video Collective in 1983, and was a founding member of Normal Films in 1991. The Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Saint Peter in York, commonly known as York Minster, is the cathedral of York, North Yorkshire, England, and is one of the largest of its kind in Northern Europe. Kit Monkman is an artist and filmmaker known for his work with KMA and for directing the experimental feature film, Macbeth (2018). Elizabeth Bernholz (née Walling), b. 1981 in Canterbury, England, and better known by her stage name Gazelle Twin, is an electronic music composer, producer and musician who is currently based in Leicestershire, England. Layerthorpe
Layerthorpe is a village in the unitary authority area of the City of York, North Yorkshire, England. It is outside the city walls of York. The road through Layerthorpe from the bridge over the River Foss to Heworth is also shares the same name. Origin of the name York historian Francis Drake suggested in his ''Eboracum'' (1736) that the first part of the name referred to a resting-place (or "lair") used by deer on the edge of the Forest of Galtres. The second part ( "thorpe") is a placename suffix used within the Danelaw for small settlements adjacent to larger ones. The earliest known reference (in a charter of 1184–9) calls the village "Leirthorp". Kelly Richardson (born 1972) is a Canadian artist working with digital technologies to create hyper-real landscapes. Early life and education Richardson was born August 2, 1972, in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. From 1994 to 1997, she studied at the Ontario College of Art & Design in Toronto, Ontario. Memo Akten (born 1975) is an artist and creative technologist based in London (UK). He is known for the reappropriation of advanced electronics, software and hardware systems to create multimedia experiences that he describes as an attempt to "change our perceptions on our relationship with science, nature technology and culture". Akten's 2013 work "FORMS" won the Golden Nica at the Prix Ars Electronica. He has shown work at the Victoria & Albert Museum, Royal Opera House, Royal Festival Hall, and Queen Elizabeth Hall.
