Yonatan Neril
Yonatan Neril (born September 30, 1980) is an interfaith environmental advocate, NGO director, and rabbi. He is the founder and current director of the Interfaith Center for Sustainable Development (ICSD), a non-profit organization based in Jerusalem. Neril engages in international speaking tours on religion and ecology, throughout Morocco, Italy, Turkey, Canada, the Israel, United States, and Spain. Career Neril has co-organized several interfaith environmental conferences in Jerusalem, New York City, and Washington, D.C. In July 2011, Neril and the ICSD team organized an interfaith panel of Jewish, Muslim and Christian authorities, who discussed the religious importance of ecological sustainability. Interfaith Center For Sustainable Development
The Interfaith Center for Sustainable Development (ICSD), is a nonprofit organization, founded and directed by Rabbi Yonatan Neril in 2010. Based in Jerusalem., the ICSD argues that there is a connection between religion and ecology and mobilizes faith communities to act. ICSD manifests these goals primarily through five projects. The group played a lead role in an interfaith climate repentance ceremony that took place during the United Nations climate change summit in 2022 that was criticized by some religious figures. Eco Bible The Eco Bible is an ecological commentary on the Hebrew Bible. Eco Bible draws on 3,000 years of Biblical commentary by Jewish sages. Specific definitions of sustainability are difficult to agree on and have varied in the literature and over time.
