Yolanda Oreamuno
Yolanda Oreamuno Unger (8 April 1916 – 8 July 1956) was a Costa Rican writer. Her most acclaimed novel is ''La Ruta de su Evasión'' (1948). Her 40 years of life were markedly divided into two phases: the first 20 years, filled with youth, beauty and happiness, contrasted sharply with the following years of tragedy, loneliness and sickness. Early life Yolanda Oreamuno was the only child of Carlos Oreamuno Pacheco and Margarita Unger Salazar. Sergio Ramírez
Sergio Ramírez Mercado (; born 5 August 1942 in Masatepe, Nicaragua) is a Nicaraguan writer and intellectual who was a key figure in 1979 revolution, served in the leftist Government Junta of National Reconstruction and as vice president of the country 1985–1990 under the presidency of Daniel Ortega. He has been described as Nicaragua's "best-known living writer". Life and career Born in Masatepe in 1942, he published his first book, ''Cuentos'', in 1963. He received his law degree from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Nicaragua of León in 1964, where he obtained the Gold Medal for being the best student. In 1977 Ramírez became head of the "Group of Twelve", a group of prominent intellectuals, priests, businesspeople, and members of civil society who publicly stated their support for the Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN) in its struggle to topple the Presidency of Anastasio Somoza Debayle. Alfonso Chase
Alfonso Chase (born 1944) is a contemporary Costa Rican author. Biography Alfonso Chase was born in Cartago, Costa Rica in 1944. He was educated in Costa Rica, Mexico, Venezuela and the United States, and he began his career in poetry in 1965. He has received numerous awards for his writing, including the Premio Nacional de Poesía twice (1967 and 1995), the Premio Nacional de la Novela (1968) and the Premio Nacional de Cuento (1975); he has also been awarded the Premio Carmen Lyra, de Literatura Infantil y Juvenil for children's literature (1978). As well as representing Costa Rica in several international committees, he founded the Department of Publications of Costa Rica's Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports in 1970.
