Yoann Richomme
Yoann Richomme (born 12 July 1983 in Frejus) is a French navigator, sailor and yacht skipper. He is a double winner of the Solitaire du Figaro and won the 2018 and the 2022 Route du Rhum in the Class 40 category. Career Richomme studied as a naval architect at Southampton Solent University, and was later was involved in the development of the Beneteau Figaro 3 yacht. He is seeking to compete in the 2024 Vendée Globe event. On 4 February 2020 it was announced that Richomme will skipper the Mirpuri Foundation Racing Team's 'Racing for the Planet' boat in the 2021 running of The Ocean Race. As such, Richomme will skipper the Mirpuri Foundation Racing Team's first full team entry in the race, having previously had involvement in the Turn the Tide on Plastic entry in the 2018 race. IMOCA 60
The IMOCA ("Open 60"), is a 60ft development class monohull sailing yacht administered by the International Monohull Open Class Association (IMOCA). The class pinnacle event are single or two person ocean races, such as the Route du Rhum and the Vendée Globe and this has been intimately linked to design development within the class. Class description This class is of "open" design, this means the boat is measurement controlled and therefore designers have freedom within the rules. Design restrictions include the length (between 59 and ) and maximum draft (). There are no explicit restrictions on beam, mast height or sail area although these are all indirectly controlled by flotation and self-righting capability requirements. The rules also tackle safety and survival design and equipment. This class is recognised by World Sailing. International Monohull Open Classes Association
The International Monohull Open Class Association (IMOCA) is the governing body of the IMOCA class. Its main task is to design the class regulations for the ocean racing yachts IMOCA 50 and IMOCA 60 and organising regattas and single-handed circum-navigation regattas. It was established in 1991. The Farr 30 (formerly Mumm 30) was designed by Farr Yacht Design led by Bruce Farr. The first boat was built by Carrol Marine and first launched in 1995. The class was recognised by the World Sailing from 1997 to 2018. History The International Farr 30 One Design Class Association was formed as the owners association to support the class and promote One Design class sailboat racing amongst owners which led to the class becoming an ISAF Recognised Class. Round Ireland Yacht Race
The Round Ireland Yacht Race is Ireland’s premier offshore yacht race and is held every two years by Wicklow Sailing Club in association with the Royal Irish Yacht Club and Royal Ocean Racing Club. The 704 nautical mile race was first held in 1980 and still retains the original course; “leave Ireland and all its islands excluding Rockall to starboard.” The latest edition of the race took place on 18th June 2022. History The concept of a race around Ireland began in 1975 with a double-handed race starting and finishing in Bangor organized by Ballyholme Yacht Club with stopovers in Crosshaven and Killybegs.
