Ylva Thörn
Ylva Thörn (born 2 August 1954) is a Swedish politician and former trade unionist. Born in Åtvidaberg, Thörn became a nursing assistant in 1974, initially in Åtvidaberg and then in Linköping. She joined the Swedish Municipal Workers' Union (Kommunal), and began working full-time for the union in 1987, as a regional officer. She became president of Kommunal in 1996, and in 2002 additionally became president of the Public Services International. Åtvidaberg is a locality and the seat of Åtvidaberg Municipality, Östergötland County, Sweden with 6,859 inhabitants in 2010. History Copper was mined in the area from the 14th century, and the name "Åtvidaberg" was originally the name of a ''bergslag'' (a type of mining community). The earliest known use of the place name is from 1467, as a compound of the words ''Åtvid'', which was the name of the parish, and ''berg'', literally "mountain", but in this context referring to a mine. The town's development was to be directed by the noble family Adelswärd. Through investments in the 19th and early 20th century the town developed into a modern industrial town. The Swedish Municipal Workers' Union ( sv, Svenska Kommunalarbetareförbundet), is the largest trade union in Sweden with 570 000 members as of 2005, it was created 1910. It is commonly referred to as ''Kommunal'' ("''Municipal''"). The union was founded in Stockholm on 23 January 1910, as a split from the Swedish Factory Workers' Union. Like its predecessor, it affiliated to the Swedish Trade Union Confederation. It initially had 1,218 members, but grew rapidly. The Swedish Tramwaymen's Union left in 1917, but rejoined the following year. Annelie Nordström, also ''Nordström Eriksson'', (born 12 July 1955) is a Swedish politician who acted as general secretary of the Swedish Municipal Workers' Union from 2010 to 2016. William Lucy (born November 26, 1933) is an American trade union leader. He served as Secretary-Treasurer of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) from 1972–2010. Life Lucy was born to Susie and Joseph Lucy in Memphis, Tennessee on November 26, 1933, and grew up in Richmond, California. In the early 1950s, He studied civil engineering at the University of California, Berkeley but did not obtain a degree.
