Yishun Public Library
Yishun Public Library (Simplified Chinese: 义顺社区图书馆), is a public library located in Yishun in the North Region of Singapore. It is currently located at Level 4, North Wing of Northpoint City and serves the areas of Yishun, Khatib and Canberra. The target community includes residents of Chong Pang, Nee Soon Central, Nee Soon East and Nee Soon South. History 1998-2008: Official Opening Yishun Public Library was first opened on 26 February 1998 by Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee, then Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs and Member of Parliament for Sembawang GRC. Its original location was on the third level of the former Sembawang Town Council building at Block 290 Yishun Street 22, Singapore 760290. The National Library Board (NLB) is a statutory board under the purview of the Ministry of Communications and Information of the government of Singapore. The board manages the public libraries throughout the country. The national libraries of Singapore house books in all four official languages of Singapore; English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil. Yishun MRT Station
Yishun MRT station is an above-ground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the North South line (NSL) in Yishun, Singapore. The station is located at the junction of Yishun Avenue 2 and Yishun Avenue 5, and is currently one of the two MRT stations that serve Yishun New Town; the other being Khatib station. Yishun station was the terminus of the NSL upon its completion on 20 December 1988, until the Woodlands Extension of the NSL was completed and opened on 10 February 1996. Northpoint City, Singapore
Northpoint City, formerly known as Northpoint Shopping Centre, is a suburban shopping mall in Yishun, Singapore. Located opposite Yishun MRT station, the mall houses the Nee Soon Central Community Club, Yishun Public Library as well as the Yishun Bus Interchange, which forms part of the Yishun Integrated Transport Hub (ITH). Ho Peng Kee
Ho Peng Kee ( zh, s=何炳基, p=Hé Bǐngjī; born 9 May 1954) is a Singaporean legal academic and former politician. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he was the Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Home Affairs, and a Member of Parliament representing the Nee Soon East Single Member Constituency. He announced his retirement from politics on 31 March 2011, prior to the 2011 Singapore general election. Ho was formerly an academic, and at one time the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law at the National University of Singapore (NUS). His academic research interests have included alternative methods of dispute settlement, consumer law and protection, the law of contract, and law and society. He retains the title of Associate Professor as he is on long-term secondment from NUS. Nee Soon South Single Member Constituency was a single member constituency (SMC) consisting of Yishun's Neighbourhood 8 (Khatib), part of Neighbourhood 7, near Springleaf MRT station, houses and condominiums along Kebun Baru and private residential areas along Sembawang Road (near Sembawang Army Camp). Nee Soon East Single Member Constituency
Nee Soon East Single Member Constituency was a single member constituency in the northern area of Singapore. The ward consists of Yishun's Neighbourhoods 2, 3 and 4. Formed in 2001 after being carved out from Sembawang Group Representation Constituency, its Member of Parliament was People's Action Party's Ho Peng Kee. In 2011, it was merged into a newly formed Nee Soon GRC.
