Im or Lim is a common Korean family name. The surname is identical to the Chinese character of the same name. According to the initial law of the Korean language, both "Im" and "Lim" are interchangeable. History The first clan branch is the Supul Rim (수풀 림, meaning "Forest-Rim") and its Hanja character is 林. The Supul Rim or Lim or Im branch consists of two large Bon-gwan, clan houses; the first is Naju (early ''Hoijin'') and the second, which is the elder branch, is Pyeongtaek. Jay Alan Yim (born April 24, 1958) is an American composer of Chinese descent and recipient of a 1994 Guggenheim Fellowship. Early life and education Yim was born into a Chinese family in St. Louis, Missouri on April 24, 1958. He attended the University of California, Santa Barbara College of Creative Studies and graduated with a B.A. in 1980. He also received a M.Mus. in 1981 from the University of London and the Royal College of Music, with a Ph.D. from Harvard University earned in 1989. Career During the 1995–96 concert season, he served as Composer/Fellow for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. His works have been performed by the National Symphony Orchestra, Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, Residentie Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Sendai Philharmonic, Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, Arditti String Quartet, New Music Consort, Het Trio, and Nieuw Ensemble. Yim Tin Tsai () is an island of Hong Kong located in Tolo Harbour. Geography Yim Tin Tsai is located in Tolo Harbour and forms part of the southern border of Plover Cove. It is connected to the mainland in the north by a road, leading next to The Beverly Hills, and to the island of Ma Shi Chau in the east by a tombolo that is only accessible when the tide is low. Sam Mun Tsai, Sam Mun Tsai New Village () and Luen Yick Fishermen Village () are located in the north of the island. The Yan Emperor () or the Flame Emperor was a legendary ancient Chinese ruler in pre-dynastic times. Modern scholarship has identified the Sheep's Head Mountains (''Yángtóu Shān'') just north of Baoji in Shaanxi Province as his homeland and territory. A long debate has existed over whether or not the Yan Emperor was the same person as the legendary Shennong. An academic conference held in China in 2004 achieved general consensus that the Yan Emperor and Shennong were the same person. Another possibility is that the term "flame emperor" was a title, held by dynastic succession of tribal lords, with Shennong being known as ''Yandi'' perhaps posthumously. Accordingly, the term "flame emperor''s''" would be generally more correct. The succession of these flame emperors, from Shennong, the first Yan Emperor, until the time of the last Yan Emperor's defeat by the Yellow Emperor, may have been some 500 years. Jangheung Im clan () is one of the Korean clans. Their Bon-gwan is in Jangheung County, South Jeolla Province. According to the research in 2015, the number of Jangheung Im (or Yim) clan was 37,584. Goryeo Dynasty Their founder is Im Ho (Hangul: 임호, Hanja: 任顥) who settled in Jangheung. His son Im Ui (Hangul: 임의, Hanja: 任懿) became the highest-ranking government officer (Hangul: 중서문하평장사, Hanja: 中書門下平章事) under King Yejong of Goryeo and was the grandfather of Queen Gongye.
