Yidispolitics Scandal
Yidispolitics is the name given to the public scandal in Colombia, which began in April 2008, when the ex-politician Yidis Medina admitted to have received bribes to vote in favor of the re-election project, which changed the constitution and allowed Álvaro Uribe Vélez to become president for a second term. The politicians implicated in Yidispolitics have rejected the accusations. Even the former president of Colombia, Álvaro Uribe Vélez, has been accused of bribery. Uribe argued against these accusations saying: "''The national government persuades; but does not push or bribe consciences''". On June 25 of 2008, after several days of investigation, the Supreme Court of Colombia found Yidis Medin guilty of bribery and sentenced her to 47 months of house arrest. ''El Espectador'' (meaning "The Spectator") is a newspaper with national circulation within Colombia, founded by Fidel Cano Gutiérrez on 22 March 1887 in Medellín and published since 1915 in Bogotá. It changed from a daily to a weekly edition in 2001, following a financial crisis, and became a daily again on 11 May 2008, a comeback which had been long rumoured, in tabloid format (28 x 39.5 cm). From 1997 to 2011 its main shareholder was Julio Mario Santo Domingo. It is the oldest newspaper in Colombia. Corruption In Colombia
Corruption in Colombia is a pervasive problem at all levels of government, as well as in the military and police forces. A general culture and awareness of this corruption permeates society as a whole. Various factors have contributed to political corruption in Colombia including: drug trafficking, guerrilla and paramilitary conflict, weak surveillance and regulation from institutions, intimidation and harassment of whistle-blowers, and a widespread apathy from society to address unethical behavior. The government is continuously taking steps to measure and reduce levels of corruption at all levels through anti-corruption policies. Sabas Pretelt
Sabas Pretelt de la Vega (born April 11, 1946) is a Colombian economist and businessman, who served as Colombian Minister of the Interior and Justice, and Ambassador to the Colombian missions in Italy, Greece, Cyprus, San Marino, and Malta. He was sentenced to six years and eight months in prison in April 2015 for corruption after the Yidispolitica scandal where Yidis Medina supposedly took a bribe from Pretelt. He was released in April 2018 under good behaviour, in which he set up an education system for the soldiers in the naval base he was detained in. Personal life Sabas Pratelt de la Vega was born in Cartagena de Indias in the Department of Bolívar, Colombia on April 11, 1946. Daniel Alfonso Coronell Castañeda (Bogotá, October 25 of 1964) is a Colombian journalist and columnist. He has been news director for RCN Televisión, RCN, Noticias Uno and president of Noticias Univision, Univision News, the Journalism, news division of Univision, until August 1, 2021. In September 2021 he was appointed as president of the weekly news magazine ''Cambio''. In October 2021, Coronell started working for W Radio (Colombia), W Radio Colombia. Caracol Radio (''Cadena Radial Colombiana'', "Colombian Radio Network") is one of the main radio networks in Colombia.
