Youth Homelessness Matters Day
Youth Homelessness Matters Day (YHMD), according to the National Youth Coalition for Housing the 2018 Youth Homelessness Matters day was held on 18 April 2018. YHMD is an annual day which seeks to highlight the issue of youth homelessness in Australia. YHMD is supported by the National Youth Coalition for Housing. NYCH supports and informs groups across the country who wish to inform the community about youth homelessness. YHMD began in 2005 as an initiative of youth workers from Blue Mountains Youth Initiative (BMYI), a Blue Mountains Region interagency of youth services that work with homeless young people. The Youth homelessness peak of NSW (Yfoundations) was equally concerned regarding the lack of public awareness about young people at risk or experiencing homelessness. Yfoundations was also concerned at the lack of awareness at the political and policy level and the lack of traction on the political/policy agenda. Theme in 2010 The theme for the 2010 Youth Homelessness Matte ...

Homelessness In Australia
Homelessness in Australia is a social issue concerning the number of people in Australia that are considered to be homeless. There are no internationally agreed upon definitions of homelessness, making it difficult to compare levels of homelessness across countries. A majority of people experiencing homelessness long-term in Australia are found in the large cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. It is estimated that on any given night approximately 116,000 people will be homeless and many more are living in insecure housing, "one step away from being homeless". A person who does not obtain any shelter is often described as sleeping 'rough'. A person is considered to be homeless in Australia if they: *do not have access to safe, secure adequate housing, or, if the only housing they have access to damages, or is likely to damage, their health. *are in circumstances which threaten or adversely affect the adequacy, safety, security, or affordability of their home. *have no ...

Homelessness NSW
Homelessness NSW is the peak body organisation representing homelessness services in New South Wales, Australia. Homelessness NSW advocates on behalf of agencies and homeless people across NSW, with a particular focus on single men, single women, families and children. Positions Homelessness NSW has argued that current voting laws in Australia do not account for the situation of homeless people. For example, women escaping domestic violence may feel unsafe attending a public polling booth, however, fear for safety is not a valid excuse for requiring a postal vote. And rough sleepers may lack valid identification. The organisation has stated that the general lack of affordable housing in Australia has clogged up the crisis system as people could not be moved on to more permanent living arrangements. Peak Organisation
A peak organisation or peak body is an Australian term for an advocacy group or trade association, an association of industries or groups with allied interests. They are generally established for the purposes of developing standards and processes, or to act on behalf of all members when lobbying government or promoting the interests of the members. While there is no official granting of Peak Body status, peak bodies are widely accepted as the legitimate "voice" or representative of a profession or industry, as opposed to just a geographic/commercial/cultural/political subset of that profession, as evidenced by requests for media comment and inclusion in government consultations. They often have to present codes of conduct or ethics which can be used in legal cases determining negligence, can conduct industry-focused lobbying, and also can be providers of mandatory industry training. In the commercial sector they allow competing companies to meet to discuss common issues without th ...

Youth Homelessness
Youth homelessness is the problem of homelessness of young people around the globe. Overview Youth homelessness is a significant social issue globally, both in developing countries and many developed countries. In developing countries, research and prevention has mostly focused on " street children", while in developed countries, central concerns in the research and prevention of youth homelessness include breakdown in family relationships and other causes that lead to young people leaving home. The term "street children" also includes street workers who are not actually homeless. The exact definition of youth homelessness varies by region. In the United States, a homeless youth is someone who is under the age of 21 and is unable to safely live with a relative, and has no other safe alternative living arrangement. In Australia, there are three categories of homelessness which include those who live from one emergency shelter to another (in homeless shelters or 'couch surfing' at ...
