Yeşildere, Karaman
Yeşildere is a town in Karaman Province, Turkey Geography Yeşildere at is east of Karaman. The town is situated at the south Toros Mountains along the valley of İbrala rivulet. The population of the town is 1264 and is on the decrease. History The former name of the town was İbrala. Only a few documents about the history of İbrala survive. Probably the town was founded during medieval age, for the mosque of the town had been built on the ruins of a church (The name of the mosque is ''kilisecamii'' meaning church mosque) However, there were Christian Turks around Karaman area up to 20th century and the church might be built at a later period. (see Karamanlides) Formerly a village, Yeşildere was declared a town in 1954. Economy Yeşildere is a typical agricultural town. Irrigation has always been a problem . The Taurus Mountains ( Turkish: ''Toros Dağları'' or ''Toroslar'') are a mountain complex in southern Turkey, separating the Mediterranean coastal region from the central Anatolian Plateau. Karamanlides
The Karamanlides ( el, Καραμανλήδες; tr, Karamanlılar), also known as Karamanli Greeks or simply Karamanlis, are a traditionally Turkish-speaking Greek Orthodox people native to the Karaman and Cappadocia regions of Anatolia. The origins of the Karamanlides have long been disputed; there are two basic theories on the subject. According to one, they are the remnants of the Byzantine Greek population, which though it remained Orthodox, was linguistically Turkified. The second theory holds that they were originally Turkic soldiers which the Byzantine emperors had settled in Anatolia, and who retained their language and Christian religion after the Turkic conquests. The Karamanlides were forced to leave Anatolia during the 1923 population exchange between Greece and Turkey.
