Yevhen Sverstiuk
Yevhen Oleksandrovych Sverstiuk ( uk, Євге́н Олекса́ндрович Сверстю́к; 13 December 1927 - 1 December 2014) was a Ukrainian literary critic, essayist, poet, think tank, philosopher, participant of the sixtiers movement, and political prisoner of the Soviet regime. Sverstiuk studied the work of Nikolai Gogol, Taras Shevchenko, and Ivan Franko. He was the founder and, since 1989 a permanent editor of the Orthodox newspaper ''Nasha Vira,'' president of the Ukrainian PEN Club. Doctor of Philosophy. Baikove Cemetery ( uk, Байкове кладовище) is a historic cemetery memorial in Holosiiv Raion of Kyiv, Ukraine. It is a National Historic Landmark of Ukraine and is known as a necropolis of distinguished people. It was established in 1833. Brovary
Brovary ( uk, Бровари, , yi, בראָוואַר, Brovar) is a city in Kyiv Oblast (Region) in northern Ukraine, an eastern suburb of the country's capital, Kyiv. It is the administrative centre of Brovary Raion (district). Brovary hosts the administration of Brovary urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Its population is approximately History Brovary is a historic town, first mentioned in 1630. Its name, translated from Ukrainian, means 'breweries' (and is a loanword from Dutch). The city also houses a railway station. Oles Honchar
Oleksandr "Oles" Terentiyovych Honchar ( uk, Олесь Терентійович Гончар; 3 April 1918 – 12 December 1995) was a Soviet and Ukrainian writer and public figure. He also was a veteran of World War II and member of the Ukrainian parliament. Biography Early years It has commonly been written that Oles Honchar was born in Sukha '' sloboda'' (now village) in , Poltava Governorate, Russian Empire in family of factory workers Terentiy Sydorovych and Tetiana Havrylivna Bilichenko. However more recently found documents from the regional archives of Dnipropetrovsk Region tell that he was born in a village of Lomivka that just before World War II was incorporated into the city of Dnipropetrovsk. The Cathedral (Honchar Novel)
''The Cathedral'' (Ukrainian: ''Собор'') is a 1968 novel by Oles Honchar. It was Honchar's best known novel but also saw him come under censure by the Brezhnev regime. The book was initially well received and massively popular among students. After sudden criticism of the novel, a group of literature students organized a defense of the novel, leading to surveillance and reprisals from the KGB. A planned translation to Russian was halted and the Ukrainian edition withdrawn. The titular cathedral was based on the story of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Novomoskovsk, Ukraine.Kamusella op.cit.
