Yeshiva Darchei Torah (located in Far Rockaway, Queens, New York, United States) is a private Orthodox Jewish boys' school. History The yeshiva was founded by the late Rabbi Yisroel Bloom and is headed by Rabbi Yaakov Bender, who was described by ''The New York Times'' as "ultra-Orthodox... Litvish or Yeshivish." It has been operating long enough to have parents who graduated from it, including on the board of directors. The Yeshiva will celebrate its 50th Anniversary next year in 2023. The school is growing; a decade after having 1,400 students, it has over 2,000 enrolled students in pre-kindergarten through post-high school seminary. The ''bais medrash'' has been described as "large". In early 2019, the yeshiva notified parents that they had recently refinanced their mortgage. Far Rockaway is a neighborhood on the eastern part of the Rockaway peninsula in the New York City borough of Queens. It is the easternmost section of the Rockaways. Yaakov Moshe Hillel
Rabbi Yaakov Moshe Hillel (born August 29, 1945) is the head of the Kabbalah Yeshiva ''Ahavat Shalom'' in Jerusalem. He has been described as a prolific author and publisher of sefarim. Most of his works are about Kabbalah. Among his primary students are Rabbis Daniel Frisch ( he) and Shimshon Dovid Pincus. Biography He was born in Mumbai, India to Moshe Hillel (grandson of Rabbi Avraham Hillel who served as a rabbi in Iraq). In adulthood he lived in England, studied at the Gateshead Yeshiva, and later immigrated to Israel and studied at the Ponevezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, where he became attached to and became a '' Talmid Muvhak'' of Rav Shach. He married Ziona, daughter of Rabbi Yitzhak Ohana, who was the chief rabbi of Kiryat Shmona. Pirkei Avot ( he, פִּרְקֵי אָבוֹת; also transliterated as ''Pirqei Avoth'' or ''Pirkei Avos'' or ''Pirke Aboth''), which translates to English as Chapters of the Fathers, is a compilation of the ethics, ethical teachings and Maxim (saying), maxims from Rabbinic Judaism, Rabbinic Jewish tradition. Alan David Hoffmann is an Israeli educator who served as the Director-General and CEO of the Jewish Agency for Israel from 2010-2018. Early life Hoffmann was born in 1946 in Johannesburg, South Africa to Dr. Samuel Hoffmann, an anesthetist, and Ida (Cohen). After his graduation from the University of Witwatersrand (1966) in political science and philosophy, he became the Education Director of his local Zionist Youth Movement, Habonim, followed by service as the movement's Secretary General and CEO. The ''Five Towns Jewish Times'' is a weekly newspaper serving the Jewish communities of the Five Towns in southwestern Nassau County, New York, and the greater New York area, covering the area's large and growing Orthodox Jewish community. The paper grew out of publisher Larry Gordon's response to an effort in 2000 by the Lawrence municipality to limit the establishment and growth of local Orthodox synagogues. Gordon wrote a series of articles for the local '' Nassau Herald'', which resulted in an abrupt policy reversal. The Center for Initiatives in Jewish Education (CIJE) was granted funding to give guidance and assistance to Jewish educational institutions. The organization's present focus is on STEM and they operate their own science competitions for students in co-ed schools, Orthodox all-boys schools, and all-girls schools. Their most recent multi-school STEM competition (December 2019) expanded, reaching down to the middle-school level.
