Yes You Can (album)
''Yes You Can'' is the third studio album by British singer-songwriter Steve Harley. It was released by CTE in Europe in 1992 and by Food For Thought Records in the UK in 1993. ''Yes You Can'' was Harley's first studio album since 1979's '' The Candidate''. It contains songs he wrote and originally recorded in the 1980s alongside newer material. The album was produced by Harley and Matt Butler, except "Rain in Venice" which was produced Mickie Most, Harley and Butler, and "Irresistible" which was produced by Most and Harley. Background After his success with Cockney Rebel in the 1970s, Harley was less active in the music industry during the 1980s. He released the occasional single, some of which became minor hits, and only performed live on a limited basis. In 1985, he signed a new contract with Mickie Most's Rak Records and began recording material for a new solo album, ''El Gran Senor'', at RAK Studios in London. Steve Harley
Steve Harley (born Stephen Malcolm Ronald Nice; 27 February 1951) is an English singer and songwriter, best known as frontman of the rock group Cockney Rebel, with whom he still tours, albeit with frequent and significant personnel changes. Early life Harley was born in 1951 in Deptford, London, the second of five children. His father was a milkman and his mother a semi-professional jazz singer. During the summer of 1953, Harley contracted polio, causing him to spend four years in hospital between the ages of three and 16. He underwent two major surgeries in 1963 and 1966. After recovering from the first operation at the age of 12, Harley was introduced to the poetry of T. S. Eliot and D. H. Lawrence, the prose of John Steinbeck, Virginia Woolf and Ernest Hemingway, and the music of Bob Dylan, which inspired him to a career of words and music. Adrian Lee
Adrian Lee (born 9 September 1957, London, England) is an English musician, known especially for his brass instrumentation work with several well-known acts of the 1980s. Career Lee was first signed to Phonogram Records in the late 1970s as guitarist with the band, Red Hot. They released one single, "L-L-Lazy Days" (1976), which was produced by Mutt Lange. Lee's first big engagement led him to play guitar and keyboards on Cliff Richard's late 1970s tours, and his 1979 album, '' Rock 'n' Roll Juvenile''. In 1980, Lee became a member of the British goth rock band, Toyah, co-writing songs including the hit single, "Thunder in the Mountains", and he stayed with them until 1982. Nick Pynn
Nick Pynn is a British musician and composer noted for his use of bass pedals and live looping with electroacoustic stringed instruments. He has been described as an ‘avant folk’ artist, whose early interests were in world folk and experimental music. Career Having made many of the instruments he still uses, Nick Pynn started his musical career in the mid-80s with the Leigh-on-Sea 'soil music' barn-dance band, The Famous Potatoes. He played fiddle, banjo, mandolin, mandocello and viola on their albums, ''The Sound of the Ground'', ''It Was Good for My Old Mother'', and ''Born in a Barn.'' Robbie Gladwell
Robert "Robbie" Gladwell (born 16 June 1950), also known as Dr Robert, is an English rock and blues guitarist from London. He has been described as "one of Suffolk's most renowned musicians. Music career Gladwell has played with numerous bands in the past 50 years and is perhaps best known for being the lead guitarist for Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel, firstly between 1990 and 1991, and then from 1999 onwards (sans 2015 and 2017–2019), playing both electric and acoustic guitars in the full rock band format, as well as Harley's 2–5 piece acoustic sets. Stuart Elliott (born Stuart Alexander Elliott, 22 May 1953) is an English drummer, composer and producer. He was the original drummer for Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel and during his time with this band he became a session drummer playing for top artists such as Kate Bush, Al Stewart, The Alan Parsons Project, Roger Daltrey, Paul McCartney, Claudio Baglioni, Lucio Battisti, among others. "Star for a Week (Dino)" is a pop-rock song by British singer-songwriter Steve Harley, which was released as a promotional single in 1993 from his third solo album ''Yes You Can''. The single coincided with the UK release of the album that year (''Yes You Can'' had been released in Europe in 1992). It was the second single to be released from the album, following " Irresistible" as a European single in 1992. "Star for a Week (Dino)" was written by Harley, and produced by Harley and Matt Butler. Background "Star for a Week" was first performed live at Harley's sold out Hammersmith Odeon concert in October 1979. For many years after, the song was regularly performed live, which established the song as a fan favourite. After signing to RAK Records in 1984, a studio recording of the song was to be included on Harley's 1986 solo album ''El Gran Senor'', however the album was shelved after the label went bankrupt in 1986. Robin Mark Le Mesurier Halliley (22 March 1953 – 22 December 2021) was a British guitarist, known for his long collaborations with Rod Stewart and Johnny Hallyday, as well as for the wide-ranging nature of his musical performance, including membership of such bands as The Wombles. Life Le Mesurier was the son of two of Britain's best-loved comedy actors, Hattie Jacques and John Le Mesurier. Le Mesurier gained a strong following during and after his appearance on Living TV's reality show ''Rehab'' (2009), in which he opened up about his battle with alcoholism. Barry Wickens
Barry Wickens is a British musician, multi-instrumentalist and composer. Primarily a violinist and guitarist, he also plays mandolin, viola, Appalachian dulcimer (psaltery), dobro and keyboards. He is best known for being one of the longest-serving members of Steve Harley's rock group Cockney Rebel, and for being a former member of the pop group Immaculate Fools. He is also a violin teacher for Brighton & Hove Music & Arts. It was released three times as a single; the first being in 1985 as a non-album single under his band's name Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel In 1986, a remixed version of the song was released by Harley as a solo single in the UK, and in 1992, he re-released this version as a single in Europe from his solo album '' Yes You Can''. ''The Sunday Life'' is a tabloid newspaper in Northern Ireland and has been published since 23 October 1988. It is the sister paper of ''The Belfast Telegraph'' and is owned by Independent News & Media. History ''The Sunday Life'' was born on 20 April 1988, at that time the ''Belfast Telegraph'' was owned by the Thomson International Organisation.
