Yehuda Sarna
Rabbi Yehuda Sarna is the Chief Rabbi of the Jewish Council of the Emirates. He is also the Executive Director of the Bronfman Center for Jewish Student Life at New York University (NYU), the University Chaplain and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Public Administration at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. Biography Rabbi Yehuda Sarna was born in Montreal, Canada. He attended Yeshivat Har Etzion from 1995 to 1997 before earning his B.A. in English Literature and Judaic Studies from Yeshiva College. Rabbi Sarna is a 2003 graduate of the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary. In 2002, he began working at New York University's Bronfman Center for Jewish Student Life, a Hillel affiliate. Since then, Rabbi Sarna has founded the Jewish Learning Fellowship, a 10-week experiential, conversational seminar for students looking to deepen their understanding of Judaism on their own terms. Jewish Council Of The Emirates
The Jewish Council of the Emirates (JCE) is the representative body of Part of the Jewish community in Dubai. Although the Jewish community in the UAE is older, the JCE was formalized with its constitution in 2018. The JCE has more than 100 active members of diverse orientations, including orthodox, conservative and reform. In September 2020, the JCE announced that it would formally affiliate with the World Jewish Congress, an international organization that represents Jewish communities in 100 countries. Rabbi Yehuda Sarna and President Ross Kriel lead the council. Yousef Al Otaiba
Yousef Al Otaiba ( ar, يوسف العتيبة) is the current United Arab Emirates ambassador to the United States and Minister of state. Previously Al Otaiba served as non-resident ambassador to Mexico. His father is Petroleum magnate Mana Al Otaiba, who served as the president of OPEC a record six times. Early life Otaiba was born on 19 January 1974 in Abu Dhabi. His father was the UAE's first Minister of Petroleum, Mana Saeed Al Otaiba, one of the country's key non-royal founding members as well as a close confidant to the late UAE founder and President Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (1918–2004). Chief Rabbi ( he, רב ראשי ''Rav Rashi'') is a title given in several countries to the recognized religious leader of that country's Jewish community, or to a rabbinic leader appointed by the local secular authorities. Since 1911, through a capitulation by Ben-Zion Meir Hai Uziel, Israel has had two chief rabbis, one Ashkenazi and one Sephardi. Cities with large Jewish communities may also have their own chief rabbis; this is especially the case in Israel but has also been past practice in major Jewish centers in Europe prior to the Holocaust. North American cities rarely have chief rabbis. One exception however is Montreal, with two—one for the Ashkenazi community, the other for the Sephardi. John Sexton
John Edward Sexton (born September 29, 1942) is an American lawyer, academic, and author. He is the Benjamin F. Butler Professor of Law at New York University where he teaches at the law school and NYU's undergraduate colleges. Sexton served as the fifteenth president of NYU, from 2002 to 2015. Levi Duchman
Levi Duchman ( hלוי דוכמן}, aحاخام ليفي دوخمان}) is the first resident chief rabbi of the United Arab Emirates. Since his arrival in the UAE in 2014, he has established Jewish communities in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and a number of Jewish institutions and services, including numerous places of worship, the government-approved Kashrut certification, a Jewish education system from early childhood to adults, business networking and relocation services, and rich community life.
