Yegna
Endegna ( Amharic: እንደኛ), previously known as Yegna ( amh, የኛ), is an Ethiopian five-piece girl group, originated in Addis Ababa. The group gained prominence after releasing two singles, "Abet" (2013) and "Taitu" (2014). Their earlier lyrical contents reference female empowerment and opposition towards violence against women. After the successful hit "Fikir" in 2019, the group sought solo career, starting from Rahel Getu. They were once reunited with the promotional song "Yeabay Zemen Lijoch" for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam in 2020. However, they resumed solo career afterward. Their legacy contributed the formation of new teen vocal group called Yegna. They debut a television show ''Yegna: The Story Of All of Us'' in 2019. Human Rights In Ethiopia
According to the U.S. Department of State's human rights report for 2004 and similar sources, the Ethiopian government's human rights "remained poor; although there were improvements, serious problems remained". The report listed numerous cases where police and security forces are said to have harassed, illegally detained, tortured, and/or killed individuals, who were members of opposition groups or accused of being insurgents. Thousands of suspects remained in detention without charge, and lengthy pretrial detention continued to be a problem. Prison conditions were poor. The government often ignores citizens' privacy rights and laws regarding search warrants. Freedom House agrees; the site gave Ethiopia a six out of seven, which means that it is not free. Although fewer journalists have been arrested, detained, or punished in 2004 than in previous years, the government nevertheless continues to restrict freedom of the press. Aster Aweke
Aster Aweke ( am, አስቴር አወቀ; born 1959) is an Ethiopian singer who sings in Amharic. Aster's voice has attracted broader public popularity, especially tracing back in 1990s singles and her single "Abebayehosh" in Ethiopian New Year. She is best known for her 1999 album ''Hagere'' and her 2006 album ''Fikir''. She moved to the United States in 1981, and she returned to Ethiopia in 1997. Early life Born in Gondar in 1959. She moved to Addis Ababa as a child with her father, who was senior civil servant in the imperial government of Haile Selassie. Aster hails from the Amhara ethnic group. Addis Ababa University (AAU) ( am, አዲስ አበባ ዩኒቨርሲቲ) is a national university located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It is the oldest university in Ethiopia. AAU has thirteen campuses. Munit Mesfin (born 1981) is an Ethiopian singer and songwriter best known for working in a duo with German vocalist and guitarist Jӧrg Pfeil. Munit sings in her mother tongue Amharic and English, with inspiration from traditional Ethiopian songs. Some of her music includes vocalization without words. Mesfin has a focus on social issues and female empowerment. Early life Munit Mesfin was born in 1981 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Girl Effect is an independent non-profit organization, launched in September 2015 with the goal of ending poverty globally. History Girl Effect was created in 2004 by the Nike Foundation, in collaboration with the NoVo Foundation and United Nations Foundation. It launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
