Bookanakere Siddalingappa Yediyurappa (born 27 February 1943), often referred to by his initials BSY, is an Indian politician currently serving as the member of the Bharatiya Janata Party Parliamentary board committee since 17 August 2022, termed as the highest office of authority in the party. He served as the 19th Chief Minister of Karnataka, and currently a Member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is also the only politician so far in Karnataka to have served four times as Chief Minister and three times as Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He is the longest serving Chief Minister of Karnataka from BJP. He is a MLA from Shikaripura constituency in Shimoga district, from where he has been elected eight times. Basavaraj Somappa Bommai (born 28 January 1960) is an Indian politician and engineer who is the current and 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is a Member of the Legislative Assembly in the legislature of Karnataka for Shiggaon, from where he has been elected three times since 2008. Jagadish Shivappa Shettar (born 17 December 1955) is an Indian politician belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who served as the 21st Chief Minister of Karnataka from 2012 to 2013. Pralhad Venkatesh Joshi (born 27 November 1962) is an Indian politician who is the current union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines of India, since 30 May 2019 and Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha, since 2004, representing the Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency. 2008 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Election
The 2008 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election took place in three phases on 10, 16 and 22 May 2008 in all the 224 assembly constituencies in Karnataka, India. The elections were conducted to elect a Government in the state of Karnataka for the next five years. The votes were counted on 25 May and due to the use of electronic voting machines, all the results were out by the afternoon itself. The Bharatiya Janata Party emerged victorious winning 110 seats. Although the party fell short of a clear majority, it was able to form the government with the support of 6 independents. This was the first time BJP came to power on its own in Karnataka and any south Indian state.
