Ye Yonglie
Ye Yonglie (, 30 August 1940 – 15 May 2020) was a Chinese writer of science fiction and biographies. A few of his stories have been translated into English in '' The Road to Science Fiction'' series and elsewhere. During the " Anti-Spiritual Pollution Campaign" his works were attacked and a story he wrote in 1985 was suppressed for suggesting AIDS had entered the country. As a biographer he wrote on early figures in the People's Republic of China. He also visited North Korea North Korea, officially the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), is a country in East Asia. ''Urania'' is an Italian science fiction magazine published by Arnoldo Mondadori Editore since 10 October 1952. The current editor is Giuseppe Lippi. History The first issue featured the novel ''The Sands of Mars'' by Arthur C. Clarke (as ''Le sabbie di Marte''). The original name of the series was ''I Romanzi di Urania'' ("Urania's novels"), to differentiate it from another magazine with the same name (but popularly known as ''Urania Rivista'', "Urania Magazine"), which featured only short stories. Anti-Spiritual Pollution Campaign
The Anti-Spiritual Pollution Campaign () was a political campaign spearheaded by conservative factions within the Chinese Communist Party that lasted from October 1983 to December 1983. In general, its advocates wanted to curb Western-inspired liberal ideas among the Chinese populace, a by-product of nascent economic reforms which began in 1978. Spiritual Pollution has been called "a deliberately vague term that embraces every manner of bourgeois import from erotica to existentialism," and is supposed to refer to "obscene, barbarous or reactionary materials, vulgar taste in artistic performances, indulgence in individualism" and statements that "run counter to the country's social system" according to Deng Liqun, the Party's Propaganda Chief at the time of the campaign. The campaign reached a climax in mid November 1983 and largely faded into obscurity into 1984 after intervention from Deng Xiaoping. AIDS
Human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) is a spectrum of conditions caused by infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), a retrovirus. Following initial infection an individual may not notice any symptoms, or may experience a brief period of influenza-like illness. Typically, this is followed by a prolonged incubation period with no symptoms. If the infection progresses, it interferes more with the immune system, increasing the risk of developing common infections such as tuberculosis, as well as other opportunistic infections, and tumors which are rare in people who have normal immune function. A work unit or ''danwei'' () is the name given to a place of employment in the People's Republic of China. The term ''danwei'' remains in use today, as people still use it to refer to their workplace. However, it is more appropriate to use ''danwei'' to refer to a place of employment during the period when the Chinese economy was not as developed and more heavily reliant on welfare for access to long-term urban workers or when used in the context of state-owned enterprises. Prior to Deng Xiaoping's economic reforms, a work unit acted as the first step of a multi-tiered hierarchy linking each individual with the central Communist Party infrastructure.
