Ashikita City
is a town located in Ashikita District (葦北郡, ''Ashikita-gun''), Kumamoto, Japan. Ashikita is situated on the south west coast of the island of Kyushu in Southern Japan, and it is known for its attractive coastlines, beaches and its production of citrus fruit. Ashikita is famous for its fresh local produce, in particular ''dekopon'' oranges (also known as ''shiranui''), and ''amanatsu'' oranges. It also has iconic sailboats called ''utasebune'' (打たせ船) which fish for famous cutlassfish (太刀魚 ''tachiuo'') and red-footed shrimp (足赤海老 ''ashiaka ebi''). Yatsushiro Sea
The , which is also called the , is a shallow semi-enclosed inland sea separating the island of Kyūshū from the Amakusa Islands. It lies mostly within Kumamoto Prefecture and at the southern end of the sea it also borders Kagoshima Prefecture. To the north is the Ariake Sea; to the south, the East China Sea. Cities of note that lie on the Yatsushiro Sea include Yatsushiro itself and Minamata. Mercury pollution The sea was heavily polluted with mercury during the 1950s and 1960s from the Chisso Corporation's chemical factory in Minamata.Yoshida 2006. This highly toxic chemical bioaccumulated in shellfish and fish in the Yatsushiro Sea which, when eaten by the local populace, gave rise to Minamata disease. was a village located in Yatsuhiro District, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. As of 2003, the village had an estimated population of 2,787 and a population density of 43.17 persons per km². The total area was 64.56 km². On August 1, 2005, Tōyō, along with the towns of Kagami and Senchō, and the villages of Izumi and Sakamoto (all from Yatsushiro District), was merged into the expanded city of Yatsushiro and no longer exists as an independent municipality. Amakusa

Banpeiyu
Banpeiyu ( ja, 晩白柚) is a cultivar of pomelo which produces extremely large fruits. A banpeiyu fruit became the world's heaviest pomelo when it was presented by Seiji Sonoda from Japan for the Guinness World Record at the Banpeiyu Competition in Yatsushiro, Kumamoto, Japan on December 25, 2014. This specimen weighed 4.8597 kg (10 lb 11.3 oz) with a circumference of 83.5 cm (32.8 in). The fruit of the banpeiyu is very popular in Japan for eating fresh, due to its blend of mild acidity and pleasant sweetness. It is also used in the production of fruit jelly.
