Yarrenyty Arltere Artists
The Yarrenyty Arltere Artists are a collective of Indigenous artists from Yarrenyty Arltere Town Camp in Mparntwe in the Northern Territory of Australia, best known for its soft sculptural work. History Yarrenyty Arltere Artists was originally conceived in 2000 Yarrenyty Arltere Town Camp, also known as Hidden Valley Town Camp on the west side of Alice Springs. The enterprise was established in 2008. Prominent artists includes Dulcie Sharpe, Rhonda Sharpe and Marlene Rubuntja. Alice Springs ( aer, Mparntwe) is the third-largest town in the Northern Territory of Australia. Known as Stuart until 31 August 1933, the name Alice Springs was given by surveyor William Whitfield Mills after Alice, Lady Todd (''née'' Alice Gillam Bell), wife of the telegraph pioneer Sir Charles Todd. The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) is the main museum in the Northern Territory. The museum is located in the inner Darwin suburb of Fannie Bay. The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA), located on George Street in Sydney's The Rocks neighbourhood, is solely dedicated to exhibiting, interpreting, and collecting contemporary art, from across Australia and around the world. Tarnanthi (pronounced tar-nan-dee) is a Festival of Contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art held in Adelaide, South Australia, annually. Presented by the Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA) in association with the South Australian Government and BHP. It is curated by Nici Cumpston. Vincent Lingiari Art Award
Vincent Lingiari (13 June 1908 or 1919 – 21 January 1988) was an Australian Aboriginal rights activist and member of the Gurindji people. In his early life he started as a stockman at Wave Hill Station, where the Aboriginal workers were given no more than rations, tobacco and clothing as their payment. After the owners of the station refused to improve pay and working conditions at the cattle station and hand back some of Gurindji land, Lingiari was elected and became the leader of the workers in August 1966. He led his people in the Wave Hill walk-off, also known as the Gurindji strike. On 7 June 1976, Lingiari was named a Member of the Order of Australia for his services to the Aboriginal people.
