Yarmouth Stadium
Yarmouth Stadium is a greyhound racing track located at Caister-on-Sea in the Borough of Great Yarmouth and English county of Norfolk. It is licensed by the Greyhound Board of Great Britain. Greyhound Racing takes place every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday evening. Facilities include a modern designed 'Raceview Restaurant' seating 240, several executive suites, fast food facilities and a number of bars. Speedway Speedway arrived in 1948 running until 1961; Ernie Wedon became the manager of the speedway team called 'Yarmouth Bloaters' throughout this period. Stock Car Racing The stadium has continually run Stock Car racing since the 1960s and boasted its own team in the 1966 and 1971/2 team leagues. Caister-on-Sea
Caister-on-Sea, also known colloquially as Caister, is a large village and seaside resort in Norfolk, England. It is close to the large town of Great Yarmouth. At the 2001 census it had a population of 8,756 and 3,970 households, the population increasing to 8,901 at the 2011 Census. It used to be served by Caister-on-Sea railway station. Following its closure in 1959, Great Yarmouth railway station, to the south, became the nearest station. The wind farm at Scroby Sands has thirty 2–megawatt wind turbines, off shore. Caister Castle, a 15th century tower, and part of which is now a car museum, is about to the west. History Caister's history dates back to Roman times. The East Anglian derby is a sobriquet used to describe football matches held between Norwich City and Ipswich Town, the only fully professional football clubs in the neighbouring East Anglian counties of Norfolk and Suffolk respectively. The East Anglian Derby is a greyhound competition held at Yarmouth Stadium. Race history The event was inaugurated in 1947, when the stadium ran under independent rules. It continued to be a major race on the independent calendar before the stadium switched to National Greyhound Racing Club status. 2012 English Greyhound Derby
The 2012 William Hill Greyhound Derby took place during April and May with the final being held on 26 May 2012 at Wimbledon Stadium. Blonde Snapper trained by Mark Wallis won the final missing the trouble encountered by most of the field, he won after holding off a challenge from Farloe Ironman to take the £125,000 first prize. Defending champion Taylors Sky was well placed when being baulked. Irish entry Razldazl Jayfkay trained by Dolores Ruth had broken the track record in the second round with a 28.08sec performance but suffered in a messy semi final race and was eliminated along with her other two leading runners Razldazl Rioga and Razldazl Bugatti. TV Trophy (greyhounds)
The Television Trophy (TV Trophy for short) is a greyhound racing competition held annually. It was inaugurated in 1952 and shown on the BBC. A different venue was chosen each year over the marathon distance of the relevant track. The competition consisted of heats (normally three) and a final one week later. The BBC continued to televise the event from 1952 until 1996 on Sportsview (later Sportsnight). When Sportsnight ended the competition coverage it switched to Sky Sports which resulted in two editions of the 1997 event, the first being the last BBC event and the second sponsored by the Evening Standard being the inaugural Sky event. A tote board (or totalisator/totalizator) is a numeric or alphanumeric display used to convey information, typically at a race track (to display the odds or payoffs for each horse) or at a telethon (to display the total amount donated to the charitable organization sponsoring the event). The term "tote board" comes from the colloquialism for "totalizator" (or "totalisator"), the name for the automated system which runs parimutuel betting, calculating payoff odds, displaying them, and producing tickets based on incoming bets.
