Yarkon Field
The Yarkon Sports Complex, is located in the Baptist Village in Petah Tikva, just outside Tel Aviv. The field was used in the 2007 season of the Israel Baseball League. The Yarkon Sports Complex is surrounded by the Baptist Chapel and cottages. The large parking lot made it highly popular as suitable for tailgate parties. The stadium was also very popular due to its proximity to bus and train stations. The seating was a mix of stadium bleachers and picnic tables. Petah Tikva ( he, פֶּתַח תִּקְוָה, , ), also known as ''Em HaMoshavot'' (), is a city in the Central District (Israel), Central District of Israel, east of Tel Aviv. The Israel Baseball League (IBL; Hebrew: ליגת הבייסבול הישראלית, ''Ligat ha-Beisbol ha-Israelit'') was a six-team professional baseball league in Israel. The first game was played on June 24, 2007. League structure The six league teams were the Tel Aviv Lightning, Netanya Tigers, Bet Shemesh Blue Sox, Petach Tikva Pioneers, Modi'in Miracle, and Ra'anana Express. The teams played games at three ballparks. Petach Tikva Pioneers
The Petach Tikva Pioneers ( he, פתח תקווה פיונירס) was an Israeli baseball team from Petah Tikva in the Israel Baseball League. They finished the inaugural 2007 regular season in last place (9-32; .220), and lost to the Modi'in Miracle in the quarterfinals of the 2007 championship. History The name for the Pioneers was chosen in recognition that Petah Tikva was founded in 1878 by religious pioneers from Jerusalem, who were led by Yehoshua Stampfer, Yoel Moshe Salomon, Zerach Brant, and David Gutmann, as well as Lithuanian Rabbi Aryeh Leib Frumkin. The first player selected by the Pioneers in the inaugural draft was Dominican outfielder Reynaldo Cruz, who later suffered a concussion and did not play for the rest of the season. Ken Holtzman managed the Pioneers in the 2007 inaugural season of the Israel Baseball League, up until the last week of the season. The Ra'anana Express ( he, רעננה אקספרס) was an Israeli baseball team from Ra'anana in the now-defunct Israel Baseball League. In Israel, baseball was historically not a popular sport, the IAB founded by Randy Kahn in 1985, is one of six nations to qualify in baseball for the 2020 Olympics has yet to be felt. There are approximately 1,000 players in 16 cities across the country. Volunteer coaches and donors are instrumental to the growth and development of the sport as baseball resources are very low.
