Yarenga River
The Yarenga (russian: Яренга) is a river in the Ust-Vymsky District of the Komi Republic and in the Lensky District of the Arkhangelsk Oblast in Russia. It is a right tributary of the Vychegda. The river is long, and its drainage basin covers . The principal tributaries are the Vezhay (left) and Uktym (right). The Yarenga is the main river of the Lensky District north of the Vychegda and collects virtually all the drain of that area. The source of the Yarenga is near the village of Vezhayka in the Komi Republic. The Yarenga flows to the north-west through primeval pine and larch forests, enters the Arkhangelsk Oblast, and in the village of Yarenga turns south-west. It is noted for its many rapids. In the village of Ust-Ocheya, where it accepts the Ocheya from the left, it turns south-east. Yarensk
Yarensk (russian: Я́ренск) is a rural locality (a '' selo'') and the administrative center of Lensky District of Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia, located on the bank of the Vychegda River near its confluence with the Yarenga. Population: History The town of Yarensk was documented as early as 1384 as a station on the road leading from Novgorod to the Ural Mountains. In the Russian Empire, it was the seat of a huge uyezd within Vologda Governorate. Much of the present-day Komi Republic was administered from Yarensk. The Tsar used the town as a place of exile, most notably for Prince Vasily Galitzine. In 1924, the town was demoted in status to that of a rural locality. Rapids
Rapids are sections of a river where the river bed has a relatively steep gradient, causing an increase in water velocity and turbulence. Rapids are hydrological features between a ''run'' (a smoothly flowing part of a stream) and a ''cascade''. Rapids are characterized by the river becoming shallower with some rocks exposed above the flow surface. As flowing water splashes over and around the rocks, air bubbles become mixed in with it and portions of the surface acquire a white color, forming what is called "whitewater". Rapids occur where the bed material is highly resistant to the erosive power of the stream in comparison with the bed downstream of the rapids. Larch
Larches are deciduous conifers in the genus ''Larix'', of the family Pinaceae (subfamily Laricoideae). Growing from tall, they are native to much of the cooler temperate northern hemisphere, on lowlands in the north and high on mountains further south. Drainage Basin
A drainage basin is an area of land where all flowing surface water converges to a single point, such as a river mouth, or flows into another body of water, such as a lake or ocean. A basin is separated from adjacent basins by a perimeter, the '' drainage divide'', made up of a succession of elevated features, such as ridges and hills. A basin may consist of smaller basins that merge at river confluences, forming a hierarchical pattern.
